A Message From Dr. Stabler
It is hard to believe we have reached the end of the semester. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff, students, and parents for their flexibility, continued support, and hard work throughout the semester. This year brought changes, but we adapted and grew together as a community. I truly appreciate all that you have done for your children. I have thoroughly enjoyed interacting with the students both remotely and in person this year. I treasured the opportunity to have a front-row seat to watch our students learning new skills, interacting with other students, and using technology in new ways. Our school is truly a learning community and it especially shines through during this busy and changing time of the year. I look forward to the new-year, which will bring new learning opportunities, new experiences, and fun. It has been a privilege to work with such warm and thoughtful students and staff who take time to smile with their eyes, help one another in new ways, and continue to build our strong community. I look forward to what lies ahead for our school in 2021, this is our wonderful 20th year anniversary. Thank you for your partnership. Have a safe and restful well-deserved winter break! We cannot wait to see you soon!
Mark Your Calendar and Return to School Dates

12/21 - 1/5 Winter Break
The board recently approved a calendar change for Tuesday, January 5. Originally, this was going to be the first day our students returned for 2nd semester. Since most of our schools are used as voting sites, January 5 will now be a NO SCHOOL day for students and a teacher workday for staff as it is the state-wide runoff elections.
Return to School Dates
- January 4-5 – NO SCHOOL day for students and a teacher workday for staff
- January 6 – 8 – Second semester begins, and our students will participate in remote learning
- January 11 – All of our students (except those who chose remote learning) will come back for Face-to-Face instruction

Thank You From Helping Hands!
Thank you to all Abbotts Hill families for your donations to the Helping Hands program! Your generous donations provided holiday gifts to 29 students and their siblings at our sister school, Dunwoody Springs Elementary. The Dunwoody Springs families appreciate your kindness. Thank you also to our wonderful PTA and PTA members Christiane Balkom and Elizabeth Lehnertz for helping to coordinate this amazing project. Happy holidays!
A Special Thank You to Our Amazing PTA
We would like to thank the PTA for their constant support! This year, they have provided special treats and meals for our staff, which we appreciate greatly. They have been supporting meal distributions, picture day, the yearbook, “Wish Items,” and many more amazing acts of kindness. If you would like more information on how you can help, please visit the Abbotts Hill PTA website by clicking here.
K-2 ELA Textbook Adoption
The public review period for the K-2 Textbook Adoption is available now through January 22. Teachers, parents, and stakeholders can review the following resources and provide feedback: (1) Benchmark Workshop (Benchmark), (2) Into Reading (Houghton Mifflin Harcourt), and (3) Wonders (McGraw Hill). Digital resources are posted here. Stakeholders can review displays with print and digital resources at the Administration building, the NLC, or the SLC. Fulton County is offering virtual vendor presentations via TEAMS on Thursday, January 7 from 5:00-6:45 PM and Saturday, January 9 from 9:30 -10:45 AM. Click here for more information.
Voluntary COVID-19 Testing
As stated in Dr. Looney’s message to families on 12/14/2020, students and employees are encouraged to seek COVID-19 testing before returning to a school or an FCS workplace if they (1) have travelled out of state/country during winter break; (2) participated in any large gatherings; (3) suspect being exposed to COVID-19; and (4) currently have/had flu-like or COVID-like symptoms.
On January 2, Fulton County Schools will again partner with CORE to host drive-up testing sites at two Fulton County Schools locations, one in North Fulton and one in South Fulton. These locations are still being confirmed and will be communicated. Each site can administer up to 500 tests, so families and employees are encouraged to undergo testing through any health provider – a family physician, urgent care center, CORE test site, health department, pharmacy drive-up lane, etc. This link is not an exhaustive list of all local providers who offer COVID-19 testing, but it provides information on free test sites coordinated specifically by the Fulton County Board of Health.
Please know that COVID-19 testing is completely voluntary. The January 2 test date aims to similarly identify infected individuals, so they do not return to school or work until they are well.
CORE has again agreed to expedite the reporting process from the FCS sites, with most results reported within 48 hours. Those not receiving results within that timeframe should not come to an FCS workplace or school until results are received. And finally, as a reminder, parents whose children undergo testing are reminded to make a report to the school district’s Parent (Student) COVID-19 Reporting Portal. Employees should send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org (with their phone number) if they have a positive result, are still waiting for their test results, or have had direct contact with someone testing positive.
Great news! Pictures should be arriving when we return from the winter break. We will be offering Picture Retakes on Friday, January 15 for those students wanting or needing to have their pictures retaken. If your child attends school face-to-face and you would like for them to have their picture retaken, please send in a note and the pictures on Friday, January 15.
Remote Students: If your child is a remote learner AND you joined us for Picture Day on December 8, you will have an opportunity to come to the school to pick up your pictures. Once you pick up your pictures, you will have the opportunity to view them. If you decide that your child needs to have their picture retaken, you can join us on January 15 between 8:00-9:00 AM. We will follow the same procedures that we did for our initial Picture Day in December. Simply drive through the bus lane and a staff member will greet your child and bring them to the room to have his or her picture retaken. Please bring the original pictures with you when you come.
