Teacher Feature - Ms. Gualandi

After my first day of kindergarten, I had my heart set on becoming a teacher! I came home from school each day to teach my "students" what I had learned in school-my siblings were great sports about it! While I always knew I wanted to be a teacher and work with young children, I did not know my path would lead me to special education. After a few college courses and time volunteering in classrooms, I realized how rewarding it is to help a child work towards and achieve a goal- whether that be academics, social skills, or behavior. Each day I am challenged to think outside the box to help meet each student's individual needs and am rewarded with celebrating each win, no matter how big or small. I am so appreciative of my role in the McKinley School Family and love watching students blossom in the general education classrooms. As much as I feel I help the students, they help me too; I learn something new from them every day and they always remind me to look at any given situation from a different perspective.

When I am not teaching, I enjoy hanging out with my family and getting outside as much as possible to hike, bike, and garden. I also love reading and baking. Last year we adopted a deaf puppy; she keeps me busy with wanting to go on walks and playing fetch. She has been a great student and knows many commands in sign language! During the summer, I work with my boyfriend and his family on a land speed car that they race at the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah. It has gone 230 mph! ,

Let's Keep Everyone Healthy and Our School Open

We are so happy to be able to give parents the choice for in person instruction for their children. Working together we can ensure that schools stay open. We are asking every family to please do the following:

1. Screen your child for symptoms each morning before sending them to school.

2. Keep your child home for at least 3 days if they are not feeling well - sick children should not be at school regardless of the cause of the illness.

3. Keep the lines of communication with the school open - we all want what is best for your child and working together we can accomplish that!

Because of the nature of our current reality, it is critical that our nurse’s office knows of any pre-existing medical conditions of your child, particularly if the symptoms might mirror those of COVID19. For example, if your child has asthma or seasonal allergies, he or she might frequently sneeze, have a runny nose or a cough. We can better support your child if we are already aware of a pre-existing condition. Please call us if this applies to you.

Please keep children at home if anyone in the household is awaiting test results
