Message from the Principal
Standing Bear Families,
We are really focusing on Math Fact Fluency. It is important to review math facts on a regular basis with your student. This will help them feel less confusion and more confident when doing math.
Math facts are the foundation for higher-level math concepts. When a child masters his/her math facts, these more advanced concepts will be significantly easier and the student will be better equipped to solve them faster. When a student spends a lot of time struggling with the basic facts, he/she is more likely to experience confusion and stress with the processes and get lost in their calculations. Please try to incorporate math fact review into your nightly routine, even if it is a quick review with flashcards right before bed or writing facts on the bathroom mirror with a dry erase marker.
In the Cubs Communication section there are some links that provide suggestions for fun family math fact fluency games you can play at home.
Thanks for your support and all you do at home!!
Traffic Safety Concerns: We want to ensure that all students are safe during dismissal. Please be very cautious as you approach the 159th and Taylor crosswalk. Do not drive through the intersection when students are trying to cross. Follow the directions of the designated staff who are supporting that area. Use your turn signal so our staff knows what your intentions are when going through the crosswalk. Please do not park illegally or next to the crosswalks. We understand that it is a very busy time of the day and there are a lot of parents picking up, but the safety of our children is the most important. We are doing our best to get students to cars in a timely manner. If you have any questions, concerns or suggestions please give me a call.
Thank you!

CUB COMMUNICATIONS
For Standing Bear Students!
Congratulations Quarterly Cubs! Each quarter, teachers will choose two students from their classroom that have best demonstrated "PAWS" behavior. First quarter we focused on students who demonstrated their Personal Best. Way to go cubs! Those of you who were selected this quarter should be very proud!
Math Fact Practice: Make sure you spend time each night practicing your math facts! I challenge all Standing Bear students to focus on math facts. You can bring in any documentation to show me that you have spent some time practicing (note from parent indicating the facts worked on and when, a chart from home, a photo of you playing a math fact game, a written description of what you do at home to practice, etc.) and I will have a math fact prize for you!

Important Information from Standing Bear
Building Security
We welcome all parents to visit Standing Bear Elementary. For the safety and security of our students and this building, we require that all parents get a visitor badge from the office when going past the main entrance. If you enter through the cafeteria doors, please also stop by the office if walking your child to their classroom. Thank you for taking the extra steps to help ensure our school is a safe place to learn.
Drop Off Zone
We ask that you please continue to pull all the way down to the second crosswalk if possible (by main front doors). We can then unload around 10 vehicles rather than 5. Also, we have some very excited and responsible "Ambassadors" to assist with opening your car doors for easy drop off.
School Messenger
We will be using the School Messenger (Robo call or email) to communicate this year. Please make sure to contact the office if you need to update your contact information.
Birthday Celebrations
We ask that you contact your child's teacher to determine if there is a good time to bring in birthday items. We ask that all items be non-food items, due to student allergies. Thank you!
