Phalen Flyer
PLA@George H. Fisher School 93
Greetings PLA Families,
We have had an awesome start to the school year! I want to thank all of our families for helping us make a smooth transition into the new year. Our scholars are enjoying their time with their teachers and friends. It has been a pleasure welcoming all of you back to school.
Please let us know how we did by completing this short survey. We value your feedback.
I am going to leave the "Transportation" section in this newsletter for another two weeks as we have had new families enroll. It contains very important information about arrival and dismissal.
Our school's Open House will be taking place on Tuesday, September 6 from 5:00-7:00. This is a great time to tour the building and receive information from your scholar's teacher.
Information about school supplies, uniforms, and our school's calendar have been listed below for your convenience.
Finally, there is information about Scouts and PLA University in this flyer. Scouts is open to all of our scholars from KDG-5th grade. PLA University is our adult career training program. It is open to ALL family members of our PLA scholars. If you or someone you know is interested in a new career or furthering their education, please reach out to us.
Information about transportation and the "First View" app has been provided in a PDF document below. You can use this app to track your scholar's bus during their morning and afternoon ride.
Sincerely,
Mr. Hendricks
Principal-PLA@93
Transportation
School doors will not open until 7:20. Please do not drop off scholars until this time. You may wait in your cars with scholars along Kensington Dr./35th St. until our school staff arrives outside to signal the start of the school day. There is a crossing guard to assist scholars crossing from the north side of the street. Scholars should wait at the crosswalk until the crossing guard can safely help them cross. Do not cross in the middle of the drop off line. Walkers will enter through the main entrance. Bus riders will enter from their drop off point at the rear of the building. Parents will not be permitted to walk scholars to their classrooms. We will have a space provided in the gym to help parents/scholars find their classrooms on the first day.
Dismissal
We will begin calling for car riders to exit the building at 2:15. Parents should wait in the car rider line by entering the driveway on the north end of the building (Kensington/35th St.). A staff member will approach your car to ask your child/children's name(s). Scholars will then exit through the rear of the building. Teachers will assist them to their cars at the loading zone near the playground. Bus riders will be called to dismiss after car riders. Walkers will exit the building last. This is usually around 2:35/2:40. The front office will close daily at 2:00. No transportation changes will be made after this time. If you are picking you child up from school early, it must be done prior to 2:00.
These procedures are in place for the safety of all of our scholars and staff. Please help us to keep everyone safe. If you have bus transportation concerns or questions please call First Student at 317-449-0796.

Girls on the Run
PLA93 is offering the Girls on the Run (GOTR) program to our 3rd-5th grade girls this fall! GOTR empowers girls to be physically active through running and helps to develop life skills through a research-based curriculum which focuses on self-esteem, teamwork and leadership. Practices will be after school at PLA 93 on Tuesdays and Thursdays, starting the last week in August and ending with a 5K event in November.
If your daughter is in 3rd, 4th or 5th grade and has an interest in being active and working on a team, we would love to have her join GOTR this fall. You may register your daughter online using the 2022 Fall Program Registration link. Please know that financial assistance is available and girls will ever be turned away from the program due to inability to pay.
If you have any questions, please reach out to Mrs. White, Assistant Principal, at swhite@phalenacademies.org.
