Matthew Baer - National Association for Music Education All-National Honor Ensemble
During the 2017-2018 school year, talented music students across the United States and overseas in military base schools auditioned to be members of the National Association for Music Education’s All-National Honor Ensembles. Prior Lake High School’s Matthew Baer, is one of two, Minnesota Students selected for this great honor. Additionally, he is the first Prior Lake High School student to ever receive this honor. Matthew will be performing in the orchestra with students from 49 States and Territories at Disney World on November 27-28.
CONGRATULATIONS Matthew!
University of Minnesota High School Band Day
The Marching Band performed this past weekend with marching bands from around the state and the Pride Of Minnesota Marching Band. It was a great day for students to rehearse together, build community, and ultimately give an excellent halftime and post game show. Below is a picture of the halftime show and above the 6 alumni that are currently marching of the U of M: Megan Perera, Keenan Perera, Noelle Kirscht, David Wu, Rachel Bezdicek, and Grace Bowser.
Thank you to the PLHS Band Boosters for providing water and snacks for the students.

The Percussion Ensemble will be performing a preview concert on Friday, February, 8th at 7:00 p.m.

Homecoming 2018
Laker Band First Performance
At Homecoming the Freshmen Bands will join the Varsity Marching Band in performance. Students are working on 8 pieces and drill to perform a full pre-game and our halftime show I Love Rock n' Roll. In total, 250 students will fill the field to entertain! Please see the information below for attire and an important joint rehearsal. This rehearsal is extremely important as it is our only time with all 250 students together. Students will be excused from their 0 hour and 1st hour classes to attend. As it is early in the morning we recommend students dress in layers to accommodate the weather.
Friday Night Details (September 28)
Once the students arrive at school Friday night, they will be with the band for pregame, the first half, and halftime. Following the performance at halftime, students will return their instruments to the band room and are free to return to the game for free or may leave. The band area will be locked after instruments are put away. Students should not plan to come back into school to get their belongings after the conclusion of the game.
MARCHING BAND AND FRESHMEN BAND STUDENTS DO NOT NEED AN ADMISSION TICKET TO RE-ENTER THE GAME AFTER THE PERFORMANCE. Admission for spectators is the normal football ticket price.

Co-Curricular Ensembles and Opportunities
Pep Band
Pep band meets Thursday mornings from 7:30 am to 7:55 am. . The pep band is a volunteer organization that plays for ten to twelve varsity sports events throughout the year. Typically, the pep band plays for boys & girls soccer, basketball, hockey, lacrosse, and volleyball games. The schedule is still being hammered out for the year ahead, but we hope to have fall dates ASAP. Participation in the pep band is how 9th graders can earn their varsity PL letter. Once the schedule is determined, students would need to attend 2/3rds of the events to qualify for the letter. Students may attend any number of events that suits their schedule just for the fun of it! In addition to sports events, the pep band is called upon from time to time to play for in-school pep rallies, state team send offs or even state tournament sport events. Again, students should stay tuned to announcements in class for these kind of events as sometimes they have a very short notification.
First Pep Band Rehearsal will be Thursday, September 20th.
Jazz Band
We have 2 Jazz Bands that run at the high school. Jazz I is the varsity jazz ensemble for PLHS and represents the HS at conference events. Jazz II is a developing skills ensemble that is often led by upperclassmen who love to play jazz. Every effort will be made to find a spot for students who wish to be involved.
Jazz Band will start this year with combined Jazz rehearsals. Placement in Jazz Bands will occur after these rehearsals.
All interested Jazz Band students will have their 1st rehearsals. . .
Monday, September 17 from 3:10-4:00
Monday, September 24 from 3:10-4:00
Monday, October 1 from 3:10-4:00
Monday, October 8 from 3:10-4:00
No rehearsals October 15th
Placements will occur before MEA break.
After Placements
Jazz I will meet Mondays and Fridays from 7:20 am to 7:58 following MEA break. Jazz II will meet after school from 3:10-4:00 on Mondays and Thursdays following MEA break. General admission to the event is free to the public, but we are asking everyone to bring a donation item to fill those bins and help our community by supporting Finnegan’s Reverse Food Truck, Good in the Hood (even worn out and mismatched shoes are welcome, they will be ground down to make something new!), and the Scott County Readmobile!
Blood Drive
Lifesaving blood donations for the Memorial Blood Center will be held at the event, but those interested in donating are encouraged to sign-up in advance using the following link and sponsor code:https://www.mbcherohub.club/ SPONSOR CODE #4552. Blood donations save lives!
Activities for all ages
