BARKSDALE ELEMENTARY
November 30, 2017
Barksdale's First Lego League Team
This year, a small group of 5th grade students will represent Barksdale Elementary in the First Lego League Challenge. Students have been hard at work building and programming a robot to complete missions around the competition field, and also developing a solution to a real world problem that involves this year’s theme – hydrodynamics.
Our team, called The Fellowship of the Lego, competed in our first scrimmage on Thursday, November 9th, at the Academy High School in Plano. We will take what we have learned to our qualifying competition on Saturday, December 2nd. We are so proud of all that the team has accomplished so far, and excited to see how all of their hard work, and teamwork, will pay off this season!
Celebrate with us!
Volunteer signup will begin next week. Please only attend the party if you have signed up to volunteer, and please no younger siblings.
Is your student missing a coat?
The Lost and Found is full!
Please ask your student to look for any missing items.
All clothing left in the lost and found at the end of the semester, Wednesday December 20th, will be donated.

Lunches and Forgotten Items
All lunches and forgotten items can be placed in the bins just outside the office. It is the student's responsibility to retrieve these items.
The student can ask the teacher to check the bin if he/she has forgotten something.
Triathlon News
All students have an opportunity to compete in a triathlon this year. If the students complete all three-events: Reflections, Science Fair and Bronco Press Book, they will be recognized and given a trophy at the end of the year.

Science Fair - 2nd Triathlon Event
It is time once again to prepare for the Elementary Science and Engineering Fair. Though participation in this annual event is voluntary, we want to encourage interested students to take advantage of this opportunity to exhibit their knowledge. This event is the second part of the Triathlon.
If your child would like to participate, please complete the attached form and return it to your child’s homeroom teacher. Once you submit that form, a handbook will be sent home with further instructions about the rules and judging of projects.
The Barksdale Science and Engineering Fair will be held January 18, 2018. All projects will be due January 17, 2018.
