Charger Check-In
August 8, 2020
A Note from Ms. Owens
We continue to work diligently to ensure a safe and healthy reopening for our children and for our faculty and staff. It has been far too long since our hallways have been filled with the sounds of students and teachers building relationships and having fun learning. We are excited to welcome our students back to the school building.
With that in mind, we ask you to partner with us in a shared effort to maintain a safe environment for our school community. We have gone through extensive measures to put protocols and procedures in place for our collective health and safety. Maintaining cohorts is at the heart of that plan. We ask for your cooperation in maintaining this model whenever feasible so that our staff and students are able to experience a safe and sustained return to school.
We send our congratulations to our First Communicants and Confirmandi who will be receiving these sacraments in the coming days. We offer our heartfelt prayers that they continue to grow in their faith and recognize God's unconditional love for them.
We are blessed that many St. Catherine families volunteer their time with both the school and the church. All adults who volunteer for the church or the school must be Virtus certified. Part of the certification process involves attending an approved workshop. If you are considering volunteering at St. Catherine during the coming year and are not already Virtus trained, I encourage you to take advantage of the remote training sessions currently being offered. You can sign up for a remote session at the button below. In the drop down menu, choose Chicago.
A Bit More News
- Our annual Packet Pick Up will happen on Thursday, August 13 from 2-7PM. This year's Packet Pick Up will look different and require families to sign up for a time slot. Please read the details which are available below.
- Supply Drop Off for our families with PK-1st grade students will happen over the course of two days - Tuesday, August 18 from 10AM-noon and Wednesday, August 19 from 12:30-2:30PM. Families will sign up for a specific time slot with their child's teacher via Sign Up Genius. The sign up will be sent out after class assignments have been published.
- Teachers have made some modifications to student supply lists. We know disinfectant wipes are hard to find and understand if you are not able to send them with your student. The updated lists are available at the button below.
- SCA has been receiving a growing number of phone calls and emails from families asking about transferring their children to St. Catherine. About two weeks ago, we took a pause to evaluate the impact of accepting additional new students, and, at this time, we will not be accepting any more new students to our K-8 classes.
- If you know of an SCA family who owns a small business that we can publicize here to help support them, please reach out to me via email. Scroll down to see local businesses we can support.
Please pray for our nation, for our communities, for our brothers and sisters who are tired and broken, for our brothers and sisters working to keep us safe, and for own sorrows. We are all - each and every one of us - beloved children of God.
Peace,
Kristine Owens
Lunch Supervision
As we have done for so many years, we are again asking for adult assistance in lunch supervision. This year our lunches will look different with new time frames. More detailed information on lunches will be shared in the updated overview. Our lunch shifts this year are as follow:
Lunch Period 1: 10:30 - 11:25
Lunch Period 2: 11:25 - 12:15
Lunch Period 3: 12:15 - 1:10
The time frames indicated include time after students are dismissed. Our maintenance staff will disinfect the full area, including tables and chairs, between lunch periods, but we have built in time after students dismiss for lunch supervisors to wipe down tables for spills, crumbs, etc.
Your tuition will be credited $10.00 for each lunch shift worked ($30.00 per day for all 3 shifts).
To minimize the number of people in the building, we are asking for a commitment of at least 3-4 days per week for one trimester, which ends near Thanksgiving break. We also cannot allow families to share the duty this year. The person that signs up will be the only person allowed to work those shifts.
Masks will be required of all lunch supervisors, at all times. Face shields will also be provided but are not required.
Charge On 5K
Time to dust off those running shoes, the Charge On 5K is going virtual! Due to the COVID-19 virus and these unprecedented times, we have decided to pivot and make the Annual Charge On 5K a virtual event. You can run anytime, anywhere, with anyone from August 15-August 22. You may submit your times on the Charge On website and there will be awards for the overall top male and female.
Anyone who registers by August 3 will receive their t-shirt before the race. Anyone who registers after August 3 will receive their shirt in the mail after the conclusion of the race. Registration will remain open until Saturday, August 22.
This was not the 10th annual that we were expecting, so we are going to call this the 9.5 Annual Charge On Virtual 5K, and we will celebrate the 10th Annual in 2021 when we can all be together.
Packet Pick up is TBA.
As we prepare for the fall, here is a great way to get the family together and run/walk in celebration of a new school year, however that may look!
Reopening Our School
The schedule for the first six days of school is pictured below. (It is also included in the overview of the reopening plan.) You'll notice that we have modified dismissal time which allows for the gradual lengthening of the school day and provides more time to adjust to the new procedures and protocols that will be part of our school day.
Thursday, August 20 and Friday, August 21 are marked as Orientations Days. All students - both new and returning - will participate in one of the Orientation Days based on the students' last names. Parents and other family members will not attend these Orientation Days other than drop-off and pick up.
