Note From Mr. Rustad: It Has Been a Great Fall at Kennedy!

Kennedy Families,

The air is getting colder and the leaves have fallen. When the weather starts getting colder outside, the learning starts heating up inside! With our calendars almost turned to November, our students are engaged daily in significant academic learning. As you move through Kennedy, you will find students showing their B.E.S.T. learning everywhere you look. It is visible in class, in the hallways, and all throughout the building.

We are excited to share the learning that your student has been doing with you in person at conferences. Please plan to come in on either 11/14, 11/19, or 11/21 to meet with your child's homeroom teacher and to visit specials teachers. We look forward to seeing you! Remember, you have to sign up ahead of time for a time slot with your teacher. Click here for the online signup form for Kennedy Elementary School.

Our Cubs continue to show their B.E.S.T. At Kennedy. As a reminder, B.E.S.T. means:

B - Be Safe and Healthy

E - Engage for Best Learning

S - Show Respect to Others

T - Treat Property with Respect

Check out the rest of the newsletter to read about some the great highlights of October at Kennedy as well as upcoming events and important news, notes, and reminders.

Thank you,

Steve Rustad

October Highlights at Kennedy

Kennedy Fundraiser is a HUGE Success!

Our students and community showed their support for Kennedy as they helped the PTO achieve their fundraiser goal. As a school community we raised $12, 127! These fundraising dollars will go toward some updates to the playground, a new Ga Ga Ball pit, flexible seating and furniture for the classrooms, as well as classroom materials requested by teachers.

There were several fun activities built into the fundraiser including a staff race on the climber, a school-wide Fitness Frenzy event, and pizza party for the top 20 fundraisers. Check out the fun pictures of the events. Thank you to the PTO making this all possible for our students!

Fundraiser Staff Race on the Climber

The Kennedy students cheered on staff members as they raced on the climber. Mrs. Hood, the Kennedy school counselor, was the winner. The students earned the race by reaching their first fundraiser goal of $5,000.

Check out the video below to watch the race!

Roller Skating at Kennedy

Kennedy students in all grades have been learning to roller skate during P.E. class at Kennedy. From the beginners to the experts, everyone is pushing themselves to get better. Thank you to the awesome P.E. teachers, Mrs. Smith and Ms. Carlson, for creating such a great opportunity for our Cubs!

October Kennedy Students of the Month

Over 40 Cubs were selected as October Students of the Month by teachers. Students of the Month are selected for showing their Kennedy B.E.S.T. at school. Great job to all of these Cubs!

Kennedy Open House and Book Fair is a Success!

The Kennedy Open House and Book Fair happened on October 24th. This year's theme was "Learning Lifts Me Up" and there was a great kid created display in the cafeteria. It was a full house as our staff and PTO had games for families throughout the building. Additionally, we served over 350 meals to families throughout the evening. Thank you to all families who were able to attend!

Drop-Off and Pick-Up at Kennedy

AM Drop-Off Procedures: Kennedy School is open for all students starting at 7:40 AM. Breakfast is open to all students starting at that time. All students should head directly to the playground unless they are eating breakfast. Please remember that there is no supervision for your student on the playground if they arrive before 7:40 AM. The front doors will remained closed until this time. If you are a family in need of supervision for your student in the morning, please consider our morning ACES program.

To help ensure safety and security at our school, we will have all students enter Kennedy through the front doors at the beginning of the day. The side bus door will no longer be open before school. This will start on Monday, September 23. You may continue to drop off your students on the Kennedy Street side of the building but the will need come to the front the building to enter.

PM Pick-Up Procedures: Students will be dismissed at 2:30. The doors to the school will remain locked until that time. Students in grades K-2 will come out of the front doors and students in grades 3-5 will come out of the doors on the Kennedy Street side. Parents who are picking up are encouraged to stay out of the parking lot. It can become a student and family safety concern when cars are pulling into and out of the parking lot. Many students are walking and biking on the sidewalk and we want them to have a safe crossing by the parking lot.

Help Students Avoid Distractions from Learning

It is our goal to provide a highly engaging learning environment at Kennedy Elementary School. To ensure this for our students, we want to eliminate distractions. If your students has a smart phone or smart watch, it should be left at home. By leaving these devices at home, students are more able to engage in their best learning. If you have a message for your student during the day, please contact the school.

Title 1 Services at Kennedy

Kennedy is a Schoolwide Title 1 School. In the past, Title 1funds were available to

provide additional support to students who qualified based on their test scores. As a Schoolwide Title 1 school we are now able to utilize those resources more flexibly to support any students that would benefit. This fits wonderfully with our small group instruction blocks when students receive acceleration or enrichment based on their specific needs. Feel free to contact the school if you have questions.

As a parent, you have the right to request information about the qualifications of your child’s teacher(s). For further information, contact Steve Rustad, principal at Kennedy Elementary.
