Chesapeake- Leopard Affair 1807
American ship Chesapeake refused to allow the British on the leopard to board to look for deserts. U.S. expelled all British ships from water until Britain issued an apology.
Women's Movement
Collective struggle for equality. Sought to free women from oppression and male supremacy. Consisted of women's liberation groups, advocacy, protests, etc.
2nd Party System
Under Jackson's presidency. The two parties reflected change conditions of the Jacksonian Era, and Democrats reflected the old Republican while Whigs resembled Federalists.
War Hawks
Western settlers who advocated war with Britain because they hoped to acquire Britain's northwest posts. In congress, the war hawks were Henry Clay and John C. Calhoun.
American System
Henry Clay's 3 pronged system to promote industry. Had a strong banking system and a protective tariff. Federally funded transportation network.

POL- There was a different belief between the two party system and it created a different atmosphere during the election.
CUL- When women began to work and accumulate money, they got more money in the household. Women also wanted to break stereotype roles in family/households.
