Fall
Fall is officially here! October is just around the corner and we have completed 5 weeks of school already!!!!! Some would say "the honeymoon is over" and "The natives are restless". It's true, October proves to be a rough month for almost everybody in education. However, it does not have to be, we can change that phenomenon. We need to keep looking for the positive in our students, in our teams and in ourselves. This is a tough job, it's a heart job for sure. Keep your eye on the goal, help our students see the good in themselves, support each other, laugh and have fun! Let's make this October the best month of school ever!!!
Wednesday Staff Meeting is ILT only
Team leaders will meet in the library. Everyone else can work on whatever you need to, hopefully this extra time will come in handy right now;)
PLC
Our weekly PLC planning sessions are moving right along. These are critically important to the work we do for our students. It requires participation of all team members to make this happen. Please be sure and contribute to the weekly documents before the planning sessions, this ensures that the conversation focuses on student learning expectations.
SOAR binders and homework
As you know every student at Burks has common nightly homework. This homework is based on student data and is designed to help them become fluent in the 3 different areas assigned: Math numeracy, Reading independently, and sight word fluency. The students are expected to complete the HW log each night and have parents initial it. It's crucial that you check these logs every day, not for negative consequences but to reinforce and encourage the student's effort.

Vocabulary
This site has good information and several different strategies, games, web sites, and graphic organizers that can help with vocabulary instruction and learning. I really like the Linnear Array of words - fun way to play with degrees of meaning or even antonyms/synonyms. Check it out:
