SV Week 18 Update
Welcome to December
Sierra Verde would like to send out a Big Thank You to the neighborhood CCV volunteers that donated their valuable time, energy and efforts for "Serve our School" Day. Over Thanksgiving break a small army of volunteers worked hours helping with dozens of projects around campus. The many projects that were completed by the CCV volunteer group has made a huge impact here at Sierra Verde. The staff is so appreciative of the kindness that was shared by all the volunteers and we are grateful for the beautiful staff lounge makeover.
As we head into the last two weeks of the 2nd quarter, it's important to finish strong with attendance, this includes but is not limited to, signing students in late or leaving school early. Please keep in mind that valuable learning time is lost with students coming to school tardy or being signed out early. These are the last two weeks of grading, lets finish the quarter strong.
Thank You CCV Volunteers

Student Council's Giving Tree
This is a wonderful time of year for many, and is a season when children’s faces beam with joy. It is also often referred to as the season of giving and a reminder that sometimes, people have struggles. Kindness and generosity however, aren’t necessarily inherent traits. They generally must be taught and instilled in younger generations. This year Sierra Verde Student Council is sponsoring a "Giving Tree" to help students in need from our school community during this holiday season. We invite you to join us as we work together to teach students the merits of helping worthwhile causes and the positive results of demonstrating kindness.
Please consider coming by the office and picking out a gift tag to purchase a gift for some of our less fortunate students. We would greatly appreciate if you could put the item in a gift bag, attach the gift tag label to the bag and return the gift to the office or have your child drop it off with our student council advisors (Mrs. Sumner & Mrs. Nuckolls) by Monday, December 13th. We’ll do the rest, and make sure that the items are delivered.
We thank you in advance for your support and generosity.
Updates from our Office
Kinsa is a courtesy program that is used to report the outbreak of other contagious illnesses and they do not involved in reporting COVID cases. To see the reporting of COVID cases for the district please see the dashboard at the district website.
Next Friday is an early release and students will be dismissed at 2:00 pm (Kinder at 1:40)
Our PBIS Store has been slammed with our Vipers spending their points for Being good citizens. We are running low on prizes and would welcome any donations, especially; $5 gift cards (Target, Walmart, Starbucks, etc...) and Mystery Prize Box items. These can be any trinket from goodie bag favors to small items you have around the house. Students big and small love to earn a chance to pick a prize out of the Mystery Boxes!
Problem Solving & Communication at SV
Our goal of effective communication includes assisting you with issues you may be having and getting answers to you quickly. Therefore, the Deer Valley Unified School District has established procedures to effectively and efficiently respond to questions, concerns and suggestions from parents and community members. This guide will assist parents and community members in finding the correct staff members to respond to your needs. DVUSD values solving problems efficiently at the lowest steps and the majority of questions and problems are answered best by school personnel. Therefore, board policy (KE-B) requires an attempt to resolve the issue at school level first. The Governing Board will make final resolution decisions if all listed steps are unsuccessful. The Deer Valley Unified School District is here to meet the needs of all students, staff, parents and community members.
Forms are available to report all incidents of bullying at dvusd.org (click on Safe Schools under the Parents & Students tab) and on your child’s school’s website.

Bullying vs. Peer Conflict
Adults must realize that not every unkind thing a child does constitutes bullying. For example: 4 Rev. 4/29/21 Being left out is not always bullying. It’s natural for kids to have a select group of friends. Although they should be kind towards everyone, it’s unrealistic to expect them to be close friends with every child they know, and be invited to every function or event. Experiencing conflict is not bullying. Learning to deal with conflict is a normal part of growing up. The key is for children to learn how to solve their problems peacefully and respectfully. Not playing fair is not bullying. Wanting a game to be played a certain way is not bullying. Children understand the concept of sharing, and should take turns being in charge of the game. When observing the unkind behaviors your child experiences, be sure to label them correctly. This will help you know how to handle the situation appropriately so that your child can learn and grow from it.
Have a Great Weekend!
