Raider Nation Staff Newsletter
Week of February 3, 2020
Super Bowl Sunday!
Hello Raider Nation,
It is Super Bowl Sunday! I hope everyone enjoys the game this evening. Whether you are a Chiefs or 49ers fan, best of luck to your team. As a result, this week’s newsletter will be short.
What a busy week last week. Thank you all for your flexibility as we navigated all of the various activities. There is not nearly as much taking place this week. You can focus on instruction without any interruptions.
First and foremost, I want to thank the staff and students that came out to welcome our new families last Tuesday. Our new Raiders felt welcomed and appreciated the time everyone took to accomplish this goal. Our families now have names and faces to make their transition to Atholton a smooth one. What a great introduction to the awesome place we call Raider Nation! Thank you to:

A reminder that the voluntary transfer window is open as of February 1. Information was posted on the Staff Hub informing staff members that the window will be open until March 1. Let me know if you have any questions.
You should have received an email regarding the HCPSS Work Hard Be Kind Award. Please feel free to nominate one of your coworkers for this award. Nominations are being accepted until February 14. More info may be found on the Staff Hub.
As mentioned in last week’s newsletter, school is closed this Tuesday, February 4, due to the 7th Congressional District special primary election. As of today, there will not be any adjustments to the school system A Day/B Day calendar at this time and continue forward with the calendar as published. There is an updated calendar on the HCPSS Website which reflects the closure of schools and the unchanged A/B day rotation.
This Thursday is the first meeting of our book study, Culturally Responsive Teaching and the Brain. I am looking forward to embarking on this endeavor with several of you and adding strategies in your “teacher toolbox” to reach students. We will meet in the Career Center after school.
See you tomorrow!
Robert
Important Information
Denial of Credit Information
As we enter the third quarter, the discussion of denial of credit may begin to surface. I want to share the Denial of Credit process that the school system has put in place. This process is intended to afford multiple opportunities for intervention for student attendance in order to avoid any student being in the position of being denied credit for a course. Teachers, counselors, and administrators are asked to take specific steps to document student and parent notification and engagement prior to requesting denial of credit from the principal. The steps in the process are:
- Student/Teacher Conference (one each quarter)
- Parent Notification (one each quarter)
- Denial of Credit Warning Letter sent by teacher (before end of Quarter 3)
- Conference held with student, parent, counselor/administrator documented in the form of a contract
- Denial of Credit Recommendation Form submitted to principal (3 weeks prior to last student day)
Student Support Team Information
If you have concerns about a student, please reach out to the various supports we have in place to assist. See below how to access information to support students in need of assistance:
