A few quick reminders...
Magnet School Open House - Tomorrow Night
The Greenwich Public Schools (GPS) are proud to offer choice to the families of Greenwich that may wish to apply to any of the District’s four elementary magnet schools and one middle school magnet program. School choice provides opportunities to attend a school with programs that may be of particular interest to a family and/or an individual student. School choice also provides the District with a means of balancing enrollment among its schools on a voluntary basis rather than by mandating school attendance area changes. The Magnet School Application Guidelines Packet and applications (in English and Spanish) are available on the GPS website at: www.greenwichschools.org/magnetschools
Julian Curtiss is a successful magnet school with an enrollment of 73 magnet students in a school of 280 students. That is 26% of our student body that attends our school by choice.
The deadline for Magnet Applications for the 2020-2021 school year is February 8, 2020. Please communicate to any families you may know that have an interest.
The Magnet Open House Schedule at Julian Curtiss as follows:
Wednesday, January 8th - 7:00 pm (snow date: Wednesday, January 15th at 7:00 pm)
Tuesday, January 14th - 9:15 am (snow date: Tuesday, January 21st at 9:15 am)
Please check Lost & Found by Friday!
JC Service Club
Dear Parents,
Happy New Year! The JC Service Club is a volunteer-based program open to 4th and 5th grade students. Meetings take place every other Friday morning at 7:40 am in the Gym. By participating in Service Club, students develop character and leadership skills by volunteering their time to help both the school and the greater community.
At JC, Service Club members help with projects such as:
· Cleaning up the school playground
· Helping set up and run Field day stations for the K-2 students
· Reading to students at breakfast
· Making holiday cards for teacher and veterans
In the greater community, the Service Club collects donations to support organizations like Neighbor to Neighbor, the Open Door Shelter, Horizons, and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society “Pennies for Patients” program.
Our next project will be collecting donations for the Love of Orphans Foundation which supports orphaned and disabled children in Bogotá, Colombia. Mrs. Brush will be traveling to Colombia again over the February break and will bring our donations to the children.
Students who are interested in joining the Service Club should come to our next meeting on Friday, January 10th. The remaining meeting dates for the year are listed below.
Meeting Dates:
January: 10, 24
February: 7, 28
March; 13, 27
April: 3 24
May: 8, 22, 29
We hope to have many more students join the Service Club this year!
