The Safe Schools Project advocates to increase the safety of our students, teachers, and all those who are involved in education.
GOTV Rally at College of Charleston!
The Saturday before election day is a busy time for candidates, but these high school student leaders managed to have quite a few turn out to speak on issues relating to young people and students across our region. The organizers were kind enough to let The Safe Schools Project speak on behalf of Charleston area teachers.
Joint Citizens and Legislative Committee on Children
A group of teachers and SSP Cofounder, Towner Magill, appeared before the Joint Citizens and Legislative Committee on Children to ask for funding for a licensed school psychologist in every school across the state. Senator Brad Hutto, Senate District 40, Orangeburg County listened intently and agreed with the need for this measure for South Carolina children.
MUSC Faculty Senate Town Hall
The Safe Schools Project attended a town hall at MUSC to hear the doctors’ opinions about the impact of gun violence on communities and individuals in the Lowcountry. Arm-in-Arm Board Chair, Peter Zalka, was on the panel and called for the need for school psychologists in every school.
