Spotlight on Liz Starin
Andrea Brown Literary Agency Featured Illustrator March 2013
About our Featured Artist
Liz Starin was born in the part of New Jersey that gives everyone their doubts, where she was raised on a steady diet of Ramona, Oz, and steamed vegetables. She has worked as a lifeguard, waitress, geophysicist, bookseller, lamp repairperson, breakfast slinger, puppet builder, child wrangler, science educator, literacy coach, and substitute teacher. But she always read children’s books, and eventually she decided to make them, too. To that end, she studied illustration at the Fashion Institute of Technology, the Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst in Leipzig, Germany, the Rhode Island School of Design, and the School of Visual Arts. Before turning to the creative side of children's books, Liz was an editor with Junior Library Guild. Now she works as an author and illustrator and lives in Brooklyn. She is 1/3 of the children's illustration blog Pen & Oink.
Liz is represented by Jennifer Mattson. In addition to her author-illustrator projects, she is open to illustration-only opportunities.
