Pier 24 News

Dear UMAC Parents,

I’m looking forward to watching all of our UMAC performers in the Honk Musical next week! Our UMAC choir performs next Thursday afternoon for all of the Woods Creek students and staff and on Saturday, February 6th at 4:00pm. I love watching all of our students perform and show off their hard work and dedication!

Each classroom has been asked to provide three parents volunteers to provide baked items for the Cake Walk at the winter carnival. If you would be interested in baking an item, please email me and I will pass along your name. The Polar Express Winter Carnival is Saturday, February 20 from 10:00am - 2:00pm.

Thanks so much for your support!

Minute-To-Win-It Assembly

Mrs. Marks and Mrs. LaShelle rewards Woods Creek students with a Minute-To-Win-It assembly on Friday afternoon. Our students had a wonderful time celebrating the PBIS success! Each classroom earned two golden paws!

Shared Reading

This week in shared reading our team read a fun play titled, A Royal Mystery. As students continued to analyze elements of a play, we also discussed how we could take an original tale and create our own unique version of a tale. Something else our team was introduced to was the different levels of questioning that can be asked about a piece of text. Ask your student about ‘Depth of Knowledge” questions and how “D.O.K 1, 2, 3, and 4” differ from one another. Students took this skill into guided reading groups and wrote a variety of D.O.K questions to accompany the text.

In science this week, our team used their scientific thinking to demonstrate the differences between mixtures and solutions. Careful observations were documented within their notebooks. In the upcoming week, our teams will continue to use the hands on experiments to learn how a substance can reach saturation
