7 Mindsets-Live to Give

The Mashburn family has collected so many items for our school’s Live to Give project! We will have a Chorus performance and Family Live to Give night on Tuesday, December 9th to pack all of our backpacks to send to Atlanta. Thank you so much for your giving spirit and generosity. As you go through this busy holiday season remember that for kids, love is spelled- T-I-M-E. It isn’t toys or money. Our kids want our undivided attention and time. Please go to this link to get great ideas on how to Live to Give this holiday season and give back to your family with the gift of time.

Holiday Chorus Concert and Live to Give Project

Holiday Chorus Concert and Family “Live to Give” Project: This Chorus performance will be held on December 9th at 6:00 p.m. Following the concert, we would love to have families stay and work together to help pack the backpacks full of all the items we have collected as grade levels to help the homeless. What a great way to spend time together with your children helping to make a difference for those in need! Please come hear our sweet children sing and help with our “Live to Give” project!

itslearning Assignment

We are preparing for a blizzard at Mashburn Elementary! Will we get one? At this point, we really can’t say, but we do want to be ready! As you read in last week’s Blue Bear Notes, Forsyth County plans to recover instructional time lost due to school closures by using online learning through itslearning, the district's online learning management system. If both Inclement Weather Days are used this year, any additional lost instructional days will be recovered through itslearning. For the 2015-16 and beyond school calendars, there will be no Inclement Weather Days built into the school calendar. For school closures, all days will be made-up with online learning.

Our Mashburn teachers have prepared a brief practice assignment in itslearning to help students and parents feel comfortable locating and completing online work. If you have not received instructions from your child’s teacher, you should be hearing from them soon. Please make sure your child completes the practice assignment. This will let your child’s teacher(s) know who has access to an Internet connection and the necessary materials (tablet, laptop, etc….) for completing the work. During the event of actual “snow days”, students are expected to complete the assigned work within 5 days of returning to school in order to be counted present for the missed days. Students who do not complete the work will be counted absent.

Alternate arrangements will be made for students who are unable to complete the work at home due to the lack of materials or Internet service. If you are in need of financial assistance to obtain these materials or Internet service, please contact Kim Allen at 770-889-1630, extension 750203 or Kim Lochbaum at extension 751145. You may also contact your child’s teacher.

Grades K-2: Practice assignment was assigned November 21 and was due today (Dec 5).

Third Grade: Practice assignment was assigned Dec. 4 and is due by Dec. 8.

Fourth Grade: All fourth grade students have had, and will continue to have, homework assignments in itslearning. Nothing additional is required at this time. In the event of snow days, students will access make-up work in the same way they access their regular homework assignments.

Fifth Grade: An ELA activity will be assigned December 8 and due on December 12.

Mashburn Spelling Bee

On Thursday of this week, 20 amazing Mashburn fourth and fifth graders participated in the Mashburn Spelling Bee. All contestants did an outstanding job! Our top speller was Gabi Somoza and the runner up was Lizzy Powell. Congratulations to our winners and all our hardworking spellers.

Media Center Project

We have a big project going on in the media center and we need your help to get it rolling. We are attempting to label some of our books in order to help our students to find “Just Right Books”. This is a project that will impact all of our students and we know you all have a heart for all our Bluebears. If you have an hour, or even a few minutes, to spare over the next few months please consider stopping by and labeling a few books for us. Mrs. Sears will be able to show you what to do. Together We Are Better!

The festivities last from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, and right now it looks like we will be performing around 6:30pm. They have had as many a 5000 people there in the past, so we would like to make a great showing!!! Santa will be there, along with food, hot chocolate, face painting, crafts, cookies, and much more. The whole family can come. Parking is in the regular hospital parking lot and there will be a staging area off to the right where students will gather before the performance. It will be a very fun event, and Mr. Anderson hopes to see all of our Mashburn singers there!

School Climate Survey

Public schools in Georgia are evaluated on the College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI) using survey data from students, school personnel and parents to calculate the School Climate Star Rating. Student surveys will be administered in school. Parents and school personnel can complete the survey using their personal computers, smartphones or iPads. For parents that do not have access to the Internet, please contact your school. Survey responses are anonymous and will be submitted directly to the Georgia Department of Education for analysis.
