Volunteer Spotlight
The end of the year is quickly approaching and, believe it or not, for weeks we have been looking ahead to the coming school year! Each week in the Pulse we will highlight a volunteer need for the coming year. Please consider giving some of your time to our school and our students.
This week's spotlight: Cultural Arts Coordinator One of the many things our PTA does is, along with a grant we apply for and receive, we help provide funds for Cultural Arts assemblies that occur throughout the year. The Cultural Arts coordinator is responsible for attending a Cultural Arts Fair in August. At this fair, you choose from a variety of performances that you think our students and staff would enjoy. This year our students have enjoyed a blue grass performer, a storyteller and an acapella group. After that, you coordinate and schedule these performances with the artists and the administration at Penny Road. On the day of the performance, you greet the artist at the school, set up chairs for the staff, and offer any logistical help the performers may need. Once the artists have been selected and the performances scheduled, the time commitment is minimal. If you are willing to help coordinate this, or would like to know more, please email Amy Toland at tolandfam@gmail.com.
3rd-5th grade parents mark your calendars for EOG testing!
A message from Mrs. Grove...
End Of Grade (EOG) testing dates have changed from what was posted on the website previously. This is due to June 11th being removed as a makeup day. All EOGs must be completed in the last 10 days of school. The testing window now begins on May 25th because of that change. It is extremely important that students are present on the days that their EOGs will be administered. Please also be on the lookout for a Konstella Sign-Up to be a proctor for EOGs after Spring Break. Parents and volunteers play a vital part in making sure our EOGs are proctored and run smoothly. Please e-mail Lisa Grove, lgrove@wcpss.net, if you have any questions. Thank you so much!
May 25th- 3rd Grade Math
May 29th- 3rd Grade ELA and 5th Grade Math
May 30th- 4th Grade Math, 5th Grade ELA
May 31st- 4th Grade ELA, 5th Grade Science
June 4th- 3rd Grade RTA test for select 3rd grade students
Join us for a PTA 411!
Please join our 2018 Nominating Committee for a PTA 411 on Tuesday, April 17th at 9:30 am at Penny Road to learn more about the various ways you can get involved. We have many positions available to suit different interest levels, talents, and time commitments. If you want to be involved, there is a spot for you! We encourage anyone who might be interested to reach out to our Nominating Committee: Barb Wright (babshall@gmail.com), Amber Olah (olah.amber@gmail.com) or Beth Potts (elizabeth.potts@ymail.com).
Books and Beyond update for our Kindergarten and 1st Grade families
We are entering the last part of the Books and Beyond reading program. The collection of sheets to count towards individual goals will end on April 30. Please encourage your kiddos who are close to reaching their individual goals to keep up the great work, fill out the sheets and turn them in. One more update sheet will come home the middle of April with the counts we currently have.
Thank you for continuing to help foster a love of reading by participating in this great program!
