Fraction Bakeries
This week, we reviewed our understanding of fractions and geometry vocabulary by creating Fraction Bakeries in groups. The kids have fun thinking about this challenge and created some bakeries that I'd love to visit! As a way to support your child in understanding fractions, look for fractions in your daily life when shopping, baking, sharing things, etc.
Our Last Visit to the Dublin Library
This week, we had our last official visit to the Dublin Library. We reviewed all that we had learned and also heard about some new books for summer reading. In this week's Friday Folder, students have information from the year. Please plan to visit the library often over the summer!
Student-Led Conferences
Student-Led Conferences were a huge success! The students spent a great deal of time reflecting on their 3rd grade learning and preparing to share with families. Students and parents were able to celebrate the year of learning together!
Books We Read Together This Week
Rump
We started a new read aloud this week. After reading several versions of the classic tale, Rumplestiltskin, we began Rump: The True Story of Rumplestiltskin by Liesl Shurtliff. This is helping us think about our expectations as readers as well as character perspective. This book is told from Rump's point of view.
The Thank You Book
Mo Willems released the very last Elephant and Piggie book this week. It is called The Thank You Book. We read the book and celebrated the series. We also watched a short documentary on Mo Willems and his writing process.
Whoosh!
As one of our #bookaday books this week, we read a picture book biography about inventor, Lonnie Johnson. Lonnie Johnson invented the super soaker along with many other things. Instead of retiring after making millions of dollars on the Super Soaker, he continued to work as a scientist. He is still busy working on solutions to energy issues.
