Improve our water systems
Regulate and Look After Our Water
The Trinity River is the main source of our water here in North Texas.
The Trinity River.
From an article in the Dallas Morning News by Randy Lee Loftis.
- Texas' top dump site for toxic industrial pollution is the Houston Ship Channel, which received 3 million pounds in 2007, the latest year for which figures are available, said the report by Environment Texas, an advocacy and research group.
- Gulf Coast industries dominate the state's total of 13.2 million pounds of toxic discharges.
- Although the Trinity's amount is much smaller - 657 pounds - that still places the river 51st among 161 Texas waters that received direct discharges of industrial waste.
- For all streams, rivers and lakes in North Texas, the total discharge by all companies was 4,000 pounds, according to federal figures.
Planting trees
When it rains. A lot of eroded materials go into our water bodies. By planting trees near the water we can hold the soil together.
Trash Cans
By keeping a couple of trash cans around a pond or park. The amount of litter and waste that goes into the pond should be reduced.
Everything is Connected
Without even knowing it, Everything in our ecosystem is connected to each other. The amount of pollutants we put into the water will later return back to us.
