A note from Principal Walsh
Hello Carver Families!
The classrooms at Carver are filled with our amazing teachers getting ready to meet students on Thursday at Open House from 4:00-6:00 pm. In addition to time to meet your teacher on Thursday, we will have a table set up for our PTO and Carver Parent Volunteer Coordinator. We would love to see families volunteering and being an active part of our school community this year.
Please note, the parking lots at Carver may be full on Thursday. There is additional parking available at Lutheran Church of Peace, next door to Carver, and on the streets around the school.
I am looking forward to meeting each of you and your children this week and continuing to learn together all year!
Meet Sean Cotherman - Carver's new Assistant Principal
I am so excited to be joining the Carver Elementary Community this year as the Assistant Principal, and am looking forward to working with all the Carver students and families. I am new to Carver, but not School District 622. I joined 622 in 2019 as a district employee, with my most recent role as the Principal of 622 Online, the district's virtual learning option for students. Prior to that I spent a number of years as a leader in a Minnesota charter school, first as a principal, and finally as a Director of Special Education. My teaching experiences include middle school choir and general music in Edina, MN, and PreK -5 classroom music in an Elementary school outside Cleveland, Ohio. Many of my favorite memories are from the time I spent in an elementary classroom, and I can not wait to add to those here at Carver.
When I am not at school, I enjoy spending time outdoors engaging in a variety of activities with my family and friends.

Pick-up and Drop-off procedures
Drop-off and Pick-up
This will be our first school year with Carver near capacity with students. Please be patient with us during the first weeks of school as we work to support students at parent drop-off and pick-up. This may take a little longer than we expect the first week of school.
Drop-Off
- Pull ahead as far as possible to keep traffic moving.
- Students can be dropped off in the loop starting at 9:20 am. Please do not drop students off earlier than 9:20am as we do not have staff available to supervise your child.
- If they are eating breakfast, students will pick up their food in the cafeteria and bring it to the common areas outside the classroom to eat. *Reminder-Breakfast will only be free for kindergarten students this year and their breakfasts will be delivered to the classroom each morning.
Pick-Up
We will continue to use the drive up loop to pick up students.
Teachers will have car signs during Open House for all families planning to pick-up children after school.
Posting the sign on the passenger side of your car will help us quickly get your child safely to you at the end of the school day.
Please do not get out of your car during student pick-up at the end of the day.
Students should only enter the car on the passenger side.
Pull as far ahead as possible during drop-off in order to keep traffic moving.
If you are not using the pick-up lane, there is limited parking in the lot and you must come to the main sidewalk to pick-up your child.
Please treat Carver staff and other families kindly during this process. We know there may be frustrations but we are all doing our best!
Visitor Information
What does this mean? Please be prepared to scan identification and check in to get a detailed printed badge each time you enter the building. This will take some getting used to but we hope you understand the commitment to safety for our students and staff.
Notice Regarding Free Lunch Benefits
For the past 2 years, the federal government has funded a plan to provide free school meals for K-12 school students. They have stopped providing this funding beginning in the 22-23 school year. School meals will not be free for all students.
The good news is your family may still qualify. We are asking all 622 families to complete the Application for Educational Benefits through Titan for this upcoming school year. Completing this application also provides additional funding to our schools in various ways. It also can qualify your student for reduced district athletics and activities fees, and testing fees, among others.
Health Office Notes - SUBMIT FORMS TO SCHOOL
If your student has asthma or allergies, your physician should fill out the asthma action plan. All Health forms are available on our district website HERE. You are welcome to print them out and bring them to school or save as a PDF and email them to the nurse, Megan Bronson - mbronson@isd622.org. We will also have copies available at Carver.
Medication?
If your child has a health condition and will be needing medication at school, please have your physician fill out the "Medication Administration Form" and return it to school. Forms can be found HERE.
