Classroom Happenings
What's going on in first grade?
January Focus
SCIENCE:
We are currently focusing on FORCE. Each day our first graders will complete a different hands on activity that introduces how objects move and what forces can move them. We have lots of exciting activities that can be recreated at home. Try making your very own ramp using a stack of books... First graders love exploring how to make objects go really fast!
MATH:
In math we are working on related addition and subtraction facts. Our fact families are proudly displayed outside of our room. We are having a blast recognizing how numbers relate to one another!
LEAP:
Our first graders are soaring with their reading. We are working on retelling stories and including the important key details. Be on the look out for videos created by our kiddos that retell The Mitten by Jan Brett.
WRITING:
In writing we are working on crafting our New Year's Resolutions. Each student has picked three areas where they can work to become a better friend and improved student. We had very meaningful discussions about how we could choose successful resolutions. Be sure to ask your child about his or her "step in the right direction".
