Miss Castro's Class Newletter

January 2nd, 2013

Dear Parents,

Happy 2013! I hope all of you had a restful and blissful holiday. I am very excited to get back to working with all of your precious children. We have many new learning topics coming up and some changes in our schedule that you can find in this classroom newsletter. Have a great rest of the week!

Miss Castro

We will have a test tomorrow on place value and decimals. We've worked extensively with these two topics and we reviewed all of math today on what would be on the test. A study guide will come home tonight. I've told the kids, "if you can do the study guide, you can do the test." As long as your child can complete those problems they will be fine for the test tomorrow. Our next unit is geometry. Also, we are almost finished with multiplication quizzes 1-12 (YAY!). We will have our 11's quiz next week and our 12's the following week. After we finish facts 1-12 we will have a timed MIXED quiz each Wednesday.

We are starting a new ELA unit this week that will have the students thinking critically about stories and being able to have discussions on these stories with the class and peers.

In grammar we will be reviewing the parts of speech over the next 4 days and we will have a "parts of speech" quiz. I recommended to the children that they begin studying now by bringing home their grammar journal and studying their notes. I will send home a study guide closer to the quiz date.

Science and Social Studies

We are in the second half of our sound unit and will probably finish in about 2 weeks. After we finish this unit your child will then begin going to Mrs. Wendt for science lessons. I will send home more information soon.

We are also about to begin discussing the major South Carolina battles and war heroes. The class is really excited about this! We are also have a Revolutionary War day on Friday. See more information in the "upcoming events" section of this newsletter.
