Join us for a group discussion on February 20th at 6pm at the HUB - we'll be talking about many of the issues that the Black Queer community faces in health and wellness. S.T.A.R. Ally
LGBTQ+ Programs has two remaining S.T.A.R. Ally trainings for the Spring 2023 semester:
- Wednesday, March 22, 5-8:30 p.m.
- Friday, April 21, 2-5:30 p.m.
You can register online here: https://bit.ly/gcstarspring23
The S.T.A.R. Ally (Support, Teach, Affirm, Respect; GC's version of Safe Space) program advances one of Georgia College's guiding principles of "instilling respect for human diversity and individuality" by affirming people of all sexual and gender identities and lessening the prejudice that limits the university experience, and well-being of LGBTQ+ identified students, faculty, staff, facility members and administrators.
The overarching goals of S.T.A.R. Ally training are to increase participants' awareness and knowledge of LGBTQ+ people's identities and experiences and provide the skills to be an ally for the LGBTQ+ community at Georgia College and beyond.
Please note: these trainings will be held in-person and the training location will be communicated following registration. S.T.A.R. Ally training cannot be made mandatory training for any individual or group. If you are interested in having your organization or group trained, don't hesitate to contact the LGBTQ+ Programs Coordinator to discuss your needs.
Additionally, individuals who identify as LGBTQ+ are welcome and invited to attend S.T.A.R. Ally, however, some of the activities and content covered may be challenging for members of the LGBTQ+ community, especially those who have had negative experiences related to their identity previously. Please reach out to melissa.gerrior@gcsu.edu if you have further questions or concerns.
Register for 5th Annual Leading Change Women's Leadership Conference
Students, staff, and faculty are invited to join us for our 5th Annual Leading Change Women's Leadership Conference! As we move into this year's conference, in a world that seems uncertain, individuals and organizations continue to process this “new normal” we live in and explore future possibilities, it can often feel like we’re being asked to do more with less.
What would it look like if instead we flipped this sentiment on its head and considered what we could do, who we could be, what we could achieve, if we focused on prioritizing doing the things that really matter to us? These are the questions behind this year’s Georgia College Women’s Leadership Conference theme - Leading Change: Do Less, Be More.
With this year’s conference, we’re zeroing in on the things that allow for us to be more - more creative, more authentic, more aligned with our goals, more [insert whatever it is that you’re striving for here].
The WLC will be held on Friday, March 24th. Learn more about the Women's Leadership Conference, including how to register, by visiting our website: https://www.gcsu.edu/womensleadership
