KHS EXAM EXEMPTIONS
FALL 2017 & SPRING 2018
Each high school student may earn FOUR (4) exam exemptions in the FALL semester and FOUR (4) exam exemptions in the SPRING semester.
REQUIREMENTS
Students with a 90 or above semester average in the class for which the student is seeking an exam exemption must have THREE or fewer absences prior to the day of the semester exam
Students with an 80 to 89 semester average in the class for which the student is seeking an exam exemption must have TWO or fewer absences prior to the day of the semester exam
About absences......
All absences are counted per class period whether excused or unexcused with the following documented exceptions: participation in school-sponsored activities, religious holy days, court appearances, citizenship proceedings, children in conservatorship of DFPS, health care appointments, military dependents, taps at a military funeral, pre-approved college visits, and service as an election/voting clerk.
Students will lose their semester exemptions for the semester if the student:
- Receivers a disciplinary assignment to an alternate education program (DAEP and/or JJAEP)
- Fails any class during the semester due to excessive absences
- Has any unpaid fines TWO (2) weeks prior to the first exam of the semster
Students taking an Advanced Placement (AP) Course and/or a CTE Practicum Course....
May earn up to TWO (2) additional spring semester exemptions, to be applied only to the related AP and/or CTE Practicum course, by having:
- An unweighted semester average of 80 or higher in the related AP or CTE Practicum class
- TWO or fewer absences in the related AP or CTE Practicum class prior to the day of the semester exam
- The student seeking the additional spring semester exemption in the AP course must have taken the associated AP exam during the spring semester
- The student seeking the additional spring semester exemption in the CTE Practicum course must have earned at least one CTE certification during the current school year
