The Fairview Connection
DECEMBER 2, 2022
MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL OPHUS
Dear Fairview Families,
I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving and were able to enjoy some extra time off to be together as a family. It has been great to be back with our students this week as we started into the month of December. Thank you to all families who signed up to purchase a gift for a family in need this holiday season through our Fairview Giving Tree program. All of the items have been claimed, which is a wonderful testament to the kindness and generosity of our Fairview community! All wrapped gifts are due back at Fairview no later than Monday, December 19th so we have time to prepare them for pick up. Please put a note on each gift to indicate the family number and gift description to help make sure each gift is delivered to the right family. When you have a moment read below for some updates from me and be sure to check out the entire newsletter below for more information. Have a nice weekend!
Sincerely,
Dan Ophus
Fairview Principal
Fairview Winter Singalong: Next week on Thursday, December 8th from 6:30-7:30 pm is our second annual Fairview Winter Singalong! All are welcome to join us in Fairview's bus turnaround area for a fun evening of singing festive favorites. Our Fairview choruses will be performing followed by a chance for all families to enjoy singing together as a community. Song booklets will be available to help you with the lyrics. We invite all families to contribute to the Fairview PTO’s charity collection supporting The Kids Pantry in Mount Prospect by bringing a new small toy donation or $10-$15 gift cards for children in need across the community. Hot chocolate and donuts will be available for purchase. See the flyer below for more information.
Erin’s Law Presentations: On Monday, December 12th and Tuesday, December 13th, Fairview students will participate in a 30 minute presentation delivered by Katherine Ciruelas, Fairview's Social Worker, to educate them in an age-appropriate way about the topic of childhood sexual abuse. These valuable presentations will teach students more about personal safety, safe vs. unsafe touches, safety steps to follow if someone breaks the touching rule, and good secrets vs. bad secrets. All District 57 schools will participate in these presentations once again this school year in compliance with Erin’s Law, which mandates education about sexual abuse prevention for public school children in Illinois. All students will be included in the sexual abuse prevention programs unless a parent or guardian contacts me via email or phone to request that their child not participate (dophus@d57.org, 847-394-7320 x4012). Please do not hesitate to contact me or Ms. Ciruelas (kciruelas@d57.org), if you have any follow up questions.
Fairview PTO Meeting: Our next PTO meeting is coming up on Monday, December 5th. Please join us in the LRC starting at 6:30 pm if you’d like to attend and hear all about what the PTO has planned in the weeks and months ahead!
Fairview Elementary School News: To watch this week’s edition of the FES News created by our Media Club, please click here. There is only one more installment of the FES News coming up on December 12th until our Media Club comes to a close. We thank this group for all of their good work this fall as these news installments have really enhanced our school in a positive way!

IMPORTANT REMINDER FROM NURSE BRUNNING
In order to prevent the spread of germs, it is important that any student who vomits, has diarrhea, or has a fever be kept home for at least 24 hour after the symptoms end. They must be 24 hours free of these symptoms without the use of medication to relieve the symptom. If you have any questions about this please feel free to contact Kelly Brunning, the school nurse, at 847-394-7320. or kbrunning@d57.org.

DRESS FOR OUTDOOR RECESS
As the weather turns cooler, please make sure your children are dressed to go out for recess. Unless it is raining or the temperature /wind chill is too cold (15 degrees or below, real-feel temperature) the students will go out every day for recess. Please write your student’s last name on a tag in their coat as we already have a lot of lost coats and sweatshirts.
All students will go out with their class unless we have a doctor’s note limiting their participation. If a student has been ill and he/she is not feeling well enough to participate in all the activities of the school day, perhaps another day at home will insure a healthy return to school.
STUDENT COUNCIL NEWS
