Happy New Year Elsie Rogers' Families
Welcome back to the second half of our school year. I certainly hope that each of you had a fabulous two weeks off of school and enjoyed your family time together. I have enjoyed hearing from the children first hand of their adventures! I am learning that many of you have new additions to your families in the area of pets - how fun is that!
The life skill that we will be working on as a school this month is PERSEVERANCE. Our goal is to instill in everyone that we do not give up when things get difficult. As our daily Words of Wisdom shared with us today, when we are faced with a difficult task, we take baby steps toward the end goal. This Life Skill is especially important this time of year when we are presented with our local and state assessments. If students take the necessary baby steps within their classrooms and daily lives by actively participating in their learning, then achievement will be the end result! Please remind your children daily that if at first they don't succeed, try, try again!
We have many activities/opportunities coming up over the next few months. I invite you and your family to pick something to participate in together. PTO will offer an open swim opportunity at Penn High School as well as a family trivia night. They also have calendared an evening at Skyzone! The staff at Elsie Rogers is preparing for their Learning Sphere evening where several new vendors have been slated. Please check the calendar of dates below for days and times. We hope to see you!
Happy New Year to all. May you all find happiness and health in 2018!

ISTEP and IREAD3 Assessment Quickly Approaching
- Please make sure your child is in school during testing. Please DO NOT plan any appointments during testing or bring your child in late on these days. Testing rooms cannot be interrupted once the test begins. If your child does come in late, he/she will be asked to sit in the office until testing is completed.
- Make sure your child gets a good night sleep before a test, and make sure your child eats properly the day of a test.
- Try to maintain a pleasant home environment and avoid unnecessary conflicts.
- Make sure your child has taken any needed medication.
- Remind your child to listen carefully to the instructions from the teacher and to read the directions and each question carefully.
- Wish your child good luck each morning of the test. Tell your child that he/she is special and that you believe in him/her! Encourage a "Just Don't Quit" mindset!
