Monthly Memo from the Principal

Mrs. Robbins- October 2019

Happy Fall Y'all!

Can you believe it is already October? I know it does not feel like it, but it is officially fall. Seems just like yesterday we were welcoming all of our new kindergartners to Kinder Camp and showing third graders how to find their rooms upstairs. And now we are hosting parent/teacher conferences and preparing for report cards to go home (or technically shared in our new Home Access Center).

This month holds so many fun times and events for our community! Please let us know if you have any questions about your October event calendar that went home in this week's Wednesday folder. It is also included below. Remember that most of these events and the calendar are also shared on our PHE website, Facebook page, and Twitter. The ethical principle of the month is: pursuit of excellence.

Lastly, I would like to take a moment to say thank you for all of your sweet words and thoughts over the last couple of weeks. We have had some very difficult things happen and your love and support have been overwhelming. Ms. Joanna has been out since last week with the passing of her sweet father and helping her mom during this difficult time. She will be back with us later this week. Also, we recently had a teacher who lost her husband after a long battle with cancer. Although we know he is at peace, she will miss him daily and hopes we take the time to cherish each moment we have with our families. Finally, as we shared in the recent Insider, we were shocked with the loss of one of our students this past weekend. Anytime you hear of a child passing it is heartbreaking, but even worse when you know who they are and that they are a part of our school and community. We so appreciate the thoughts, prayers, and condolences; also we appreciate your respect towards the family's privacy. Please let us know if your student or your family need support during this difficult time. Our school counselor, Ms. Valles, is available to assist your student(s) should there be a need. You may contact her at 512-570-6416. Should additional counseling support be required, Leander ISD has a team who can support the PHE community.

As always, we are here to help!

Get to know your Assistant Principal, Marcia Fields

This is my second year as the Assistant Principal here at PHE, and I’m so glad to be here! I have been in education for 15 years now. I have taught 2nd Grade, 1st Grade, and 5th Grade. I have also served as an Instructional Coach. My experience has taken me all over the district including C.C. Mason Elementary, River Ridge Elementary, Whitestone Elementary, and River Place Elementary. Here’s a fun fact about my time at C.C. Mason Elementary: I taught Mrs. Robbins’ oldest daughter, Emma, in 1st Grade! She was sweet, smart, and beautiful then, and she still is today!

I was born and raised in Corpus Christi where my family still lives and runs the family steel business. I have two younger brothers who are both married and have given me four amazing nieces and nephews. I attended and graduated from Texas Tech University in Lubbock and shortly after met the love of my life, Michael, who proudly works for the Austin Fire Department. We have one son, Mason, who keeps us very busy with his baseball commitments and his enthusiasm for life. He is, most certainly, our greatest blessing. He is in 6th Grade, and attends Leander Middle School, and he’s loving it!

Michael and I very intentionally sold our house in Round Rock several years ago and moved to Leander because we love this community and this school district. We wanted Mason to have the privilege of growing up here, surrounded by the amazing people and teachers that we have come to know and love. I believe in this school district and its focus on student learning as well as its commitment to always doing what is best for children. I look forward to serving this district for many years to come! Please feel free to reach out to me if I can ever be of service to you and your child.

NO SCHOOL October 14th and 15th for our staff development days

Training for all students on bullying

On Monday, all students received the annual student bullying training during their specials time. Mrs. Fields presented the training and focused on what the term “bullying” means and how to respond to it. There was also conversation regarding “mean” and “rude” behavior that is, at times, mistaken for bullying. We thought that it would be helpful to share those meanings with parents, as well, so that you can support your child at home with these understandings. As always, please let us know if you have any questions or concerns. You can also check out the Leander ISD site on bully prevention.

Custodian Appreciation Week- October 7th-11th. Thank you Mr. Randy and Mr. John!
