Donations Needed for Health Office
Hello, my name is Stephanie, and I am the new Health Technician at Park Village Elementary. I am super excited to be here and have enjoyed slowly meeting the students and staff. Our "mask breaks" have kept our health office busy this year and I am almost out of the large size bandages. If anyone is interested or able to donate these items for our health office, the Park Village Health Office would greatly appreciate it.

Donate Your Unwanted Hardcover Books
We will only take hardcover books and because paperbacks fall apart too easily and hardcovers last longer. There is a bin by the main gate and by the ESS entrance where you can drop off your books between Monday, May 3th thru Friday, May 14th. Hardcover books that are falling apart will be donated elsewhere and books for older kids will be donated to Poway District middle and high schools. It doesn’t matter if your book is a picture book, nonfiction, or fiction. It’s optional to donate, but I hope you choose to because it helps out our fellow school libraries!

Encouraging Your Child to Read
Children who read at home with their parents perform better in school. Show your kids how much you value reading by keeping good books and magazines in the house and let them see you read. Take them on trips to the library and encourage them to get library cards. This will be especially beneficial during the summer break. Exchange some technology time with reading. There are often reading programs at the library which encourage reading during the summer. Let children read to you, read to them (they can understand a lot more their reading levels allow them to read). Talk about books. What was the book about? Why did a character act like he/she did? How would they have handled the situation in the story? What would happen next in the book? Why did the author name the book what he/she did?
· Look for other ways to teach children the magic of language, words, and stories.
· Tell stories to your children about their families and their culture.
· Point out words whenever you go to the grocery store, the gas station, or on a road trip.
· Encourage children to write notes to grandparents or other relatives. Grandparents love a “Thank You” note. Your child can write to the author of her favorite book, you may even get a response!
· Take photos on vacation and write a sentence about the photo or scene.
Reading can enrich our lives and help children experience different points of view.
“There are many little ways to enlarge your child’s world. Love of books is the best of all.” Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis
Please feel free to contact us with any concerns you may have regarding your child.
Sending you all best wishes,

The (Remote) School Library is Open!
Did you know students can request books from the school library and have them delivered directly to their classroom (or to curbside pick-up if you are VLA)? All it takes is four easy steps. This Google Slide has step-by-step instructions, links to book lists, video tutorials, and answers to frequently asked questions. I encourage you and your child to try reserving books today. I’ve added hundreds of new books this year that are just waiting to be discovered.

PV HUGS community message wall
Introducing our PV HUGS community message wall! Look in the ESS parking lot for our HUGS message wall where families can safely come and tie on a ribbon with a positive message to our PV school community. We all are in need of Hope, Unity, Gratitude, and Strength right now, and that's exactly what our PV H.U.G.S. message wall represents!
Please practice all safety precautions such as wearing masks and social distancing when coming to place a massage or read a message. Ribbons will be sent home with your child or at your next materials pick up. Students and their families can write positive words to share with their community and then tie ribbons on the fence. Thank you to our wonderful DADS group for help on the sign installation and to the PTA and No Place For Hate Student Committee for making this happen!"
Celebrate with a “Birthday Book” Donation to the Library
The school library’s Birthday Book donation program is an opportunity to celebrate your child’s birthday (or another milestone occasion) by choosing a book for the library's collection. Your gift will benefit PVES students for years to come!
After the donated book arrives at the library, a special bookplate with your child's name and birthday age will be placed inside the front cover. I will also reserve the book so your child can be the first student to check it out from the library (unless they choose not to).
This program is completely optional, but new books are greatly appreciated by the students, teachers, and me! Thank you very much! -- Mrs. Fleming, Librarian
How the Birthday Book Club works:
1) Choose a book from the Park Village ES Library Wish List on Amazon any time. There are a wide variety of preselected books to choose from. You can ship the books directly to the library.
2) Complete the Birthday Book Donation form online so I know what to expect.
3) When the book is ready for check-out, your child can be the first one to borrow it.
After the book is returned, it becomes part of the library collection for other students to enjoy.
Thank you for supporting reading and learning at Park Village!
No Place For Hate
We are excited to share with you that Park Village was officially designated as a No Place For Hate school again this year! This past week teachers kicked off this valuable program with students. As a reminder, The “No Place For Hate” program was created by the national Anti Defamation League (ADL) organization and was developed to organize schools to work together and develop projects that enhance the appreciation of diversity and foster harmony amongst diverse groups. The campaign empowers schools to promote respect for individual and group differences while challenging prejudice and bigotry. Each year we will start by having all staff and students take the No Place For Hate Pledge seen here.
I PROMISE to do my best to treat everyone fairly.
I PROMISE to do my best to be kind to everyone -even if they are not like me.
IF I SEE someone being hurt or bullied, I will tell a teacher
EVERYONE should be able to feel safe and happy in school.
I WANT OUR SCHOOL to be No Place For Hate.
I PROMISE to abide by and uphold the No Place For Hate Pledge.
We will also be implementing three school wide activities throughout the year. The goal of these activities are to continue to find ways of building a more inclusive and respectful campus and to empower students to take a stand against hate and bullying. In addition to school wide activities, we have created a “Virtual Inclusion Lounge” for parents and students to access throughout the year. We hope students and parents will explore these resources together to have discussions around the topics of diversity, tolerance, and acceptance. Click here to access the “Virtual Inclusion Lounge” If you want to learn more about the No Place for Hate program in San Diego visit. https://sandiego.adl.org/no-place-for-hate. Thank you for your support.
Sincerely,
Your “No Place For Hate” Team Members

BOX TOPS has transitioned to digital submission! It's now easier than ever to earn money for our school. Download the app, scan your receipt, and your earnings will instantly show up in the PVE account.
SCANNING:
- The new method of submitting Box Tops is to scan your receipt via a downloadable app. The new style Box Tops will say "SCAN" and may only be submitted this way.
- You have 14 days to scan your receipt otherwise, it becomes invalid.
- Please watch the "how to" video below for more information & instructions.
We will be having competitions as the year goes on. Here's how to start:
1. Download the app.
2. Scan your receipt every time you go to a grocery store. You don't even have to check to see if you bought anything that is Box Tops. Just get in the habit of scanning after every grocery trip. The app will tell you if you earned box tops for your school.
3. At the bottom of the app, find the "star" and enter your teacher's name for credit for your class.
Contact Box Tops Chair, Cheryl Sifferlen, at sifferlens@gmail.com if you have any questions.
