Greenbriar Middle School
October 2023 Newsletter
Happy Fall Greenbriar Community,
It's been a beautiful Fall season as we roll into the winter. As many of you will ask....Halloween is not a holiday we celebrate in school. However, your student can dress in a costume but they cannot paint their face, wear a mask or wear anything that could be a distraction to the educational process.
The new cell phone/electronic policy is going very well. Thank you to those parents who are supportive in our endeavors. Our students are engaging socially with each other and our teachers are stating the students are more active and motivated in class! Great job parents and thank you!
Parents who have students who are walkers, please remind them that they are not to cut across Huffman Road during dismissal. They must cross where the crossing guards are located.
Any parent having issues with Transportation, as far as "getting a bus", need to call (440) 885-1866. The building cannot help with this situation.
If you haven't done so already please join the PTA, https://tinyurl.com/joingbpta. We have a fantastic group of folks in our PTA positions that are working hard for your students and staff. Thank you PTA!
Have a great Fall season and I look forward to our activities we have lined up for parents and students in the upcoming months!

Briana has made a lot of progress socially and academically. She meets Greenbriar’s 3 R’s, being Respectful, Responsible and Ready to Learn. She is respectful to both peers and teachers. She is always doing something nice and/or helpful for someone. Briana is very responsible with getting all of her classwork and homework done. She is Ready to Learn every day every day with all of her supplies, her work, and a great attitude. She is an absolute joy to have in class and she very much deserves her award this month as STUDENT OF THE MONTH.

Auston Green an OutSTANDing guy!
It is difficult to choose a Student of the Month among our amazing STEM 5 learners, so we had to choose someone who stood out among the rest. Who coped seamlessly with the new transition to middle school? Who modeled an enthusiasm for learning and a true respect for fellow peers? Who remained patient and productive during the organized chaos that comes with many STEM design challenges? Who would any STEM learner appreciate having on their team? With so many that could represent these characteristics, it is the one-and-only Auston Green that stood out. Auston STOOD out because he is outSTANDing! We are lucky to have Auston as part of the STEM family!

STEM 5 Bootcamp Acclimates Learners to Middle School STEM!
Learners survived STEM 5 Bootcamp during the first week with grace and perseverance. They generated thoughtful STEM 5 Rules, used a plethora of technology such as Flip, Google Slides and Google Draw, AND worked on design briefs to design, build and revise an organizational structure for their lockers. Wait! And they learned how to identify credible online sources, a critical skill for current times.

Kavah with her proud Dad!
Kavah is our student of the month for the 8X Griffens. First and foremost, she is a lovely young lady who demonstrates courtesy and kindness every day to every person. Her academics are top notch, earning outstanding grades in all her subjects. Kavah is diligent and attentive to her assignments, essays, and projects and actually enjoys learning with her peers and teachers every day. Congratulations Kavah!
Our 8th graders are back at it, working hard to be role models to the younger students. Our students of the month should be commended for their consistent diligence and outstanding effort. Those students are:
Jayden Walker-English
Sydney Gatoo-Social Studies
Thomas Dulik-Science
Addyson Tatar-Math
Kavah Duda-Superstar of the month!!!
We will have a pizza lunch for our students of the month on Thursday.
In English, we are deep in our study of horror fiction. These spooky stories are perfect for October and include terrifying tales by Edgar Allen Poe. Students are actually creating a book in science about the reshaping of the earth's crust. Along with this creativity, the science students are studying erosion and soil. In math class, real numbers are the focus of instruction and later solving equations.
