Suwanee Update
Summer News
I hope you're having a great summer. I wanted to remind you of the great opportunity to check out the GCPS Book Mobile next week and give the kiddos a chance to pick out two free books.Details on location and time are pictured below.
I know there is a lot of anticipation about next steps for starting our 2020-2021 school year. Right now, the district is focusing district and local school resources on planning for the fall. GCPS will launch a survey later this week to help inform the district’s plans. Much work is being done to prepare for these options, taking into account guidance from public health officials and state agencies. Once the district has made the decision about how we will begin school, I will share details on our approach at Suwanee Elementary.
Also, given ongoing concerns about COVID-19 and a thorough review of the current situation, the district has decided to not offer traditional face-to-face summer school for elementary and middle school students this year. Instead, GCPS will:
- Provide Summer Resources online for students and families — GCPS has compiled a number of online reading/language arts and mathematics resources for students and will make those resources available on a Summer Resources webpage. These resources will be helpful for students recommended for summer school, as well as all other students. The resources for students in grades K-12 will be available on the district website on Monday, June 15th.
- Unfortunately, we will not be able to hold the summer camps we had scheduled to have in July. At this time, we are focusing our energy at planning for fall as well. Suwanee's teachers and staff are the absolute best! We have planning days already scheduled in July to develop instructional plans and complete professional learning. We will be ready to take care of our students and families. There's truly no place like Suwanee.
On a final note, I want to again thank the teachers, staff, and families for giving their absolute best to our students. We truly have created a school we love! Stay safe, spend time with your family, read a good book, SMILE, and reach out to me if you have any questions.
Your VERY Proud Principal,
Ms. Mary B. Taylor
