Randolph County (NC) School System's Response to Coronavirus

Dr Gainey's Message from March 5

A Message to Parents from Dr. Stephen Gainey, Superintendent of the Randolph County School System

A letter was sent home with every student in the school system on March 5, 2020, regarding the coronavirus. A link to the letter is below. The letter was written by Susan Hayes, Director of Randolph Public Health. It contains some information about the coronavirus as well as some tips to use to prevent the spread of this virus. In addition to being posted here, the letter also will be posted on the web page of each of our schools for your reference. In addition, it will be posted on the school system’s Twitter account and Facebook page. The letter will be sent to parents by email through the Peachjar Electronic Flyers program as well. Please know that the school system and Randolph Public Health currently are working together to monitor this issue and will make future plans to address the situation as needed. I want to “thank” all parents for your continued support of our school system.

Mr. Johnson's Message Concerning Athletics

Good evening parents and students of Wheatmore High School this is Principal Johnson, I have one very important announcement concerning athletics.

Today the Board of Directors of the NCHSAA moved to suspend interscholastic athletics beginning at 11:59 p.m. on Friday, March 13, 2020 through Monday, April 6th, 2020. The NCHSAA Board of Directors will assess this situation regularly over the next few weeks. This includes all workouts, skill development, practices and contests.

The Randolph County School System follows the NCHSAA rules for middle school athletics as well. Thus, this ruling also applies to middle school athletics.

Coach Halo will be working closely with our county athletic director and the PAC-7 conference chairperson with scheduling once the suspension is lifted.

If you have any questions, please feel free to call the school. Coach Halo and I will try and answer any question you may have.

Thank you for your support of Wheatmore High School.
