OCTOBER 2022
WELCOME GRIZZLIES!
September is already over, and that cooler temperatures and more fall-like weather have arrived. It was nice to see so many families at our open house and spend time catching up and hearing about summer and the transition back to school.
Home and school communication are very important, please connect your child's teacher should you have any questions or concerns. Likewise, teachers will be contacting you directly if they have any concerns about progress. We truly appreciate your ongoing support and believe that by working together we can create the best possible environment that allows students to achieve success.
As always, please contact the school with any questions or concerns.

Morning Line Up and Afternoon Pick Up Proceedures
When dropping off and picking up students, we ask you to observe the following safety procedures:
Drop Off:
The drop-off lane is open.
This is our KISS & GO ZONE. Pull up next to the sidewalk to let your student out of your vehicle from the passenger side ONLY.
Please do not drop off your students in the parking lot or the second lane of traffic.
If your student needs assistance exiting the car, you MUST park your car in the lot and walk your student to the front of the school to ensure a safe crossing from the parking lot.
Students should not be permitted to walk past parked or moving cars unescorted.
Y5-K-1-2nd graders will have outdoor lineup locations marked by teacher names.
3-4-5 grade students will line up outside at their classroom doors.
Pick Up:
Our Y5-K-1-2 graders who are getting picked-up will be escorted to their outside staging locations. Parents should pick up your student from these staging areas.
3-4-5 Graders will exit from their classroom doors. All 3-4-5 classrooms are by the patio
You may meet your child at their classroom doors or staging location and escort them to your car
No student will be allowed to leave the sidewalk unescorted.
Do not call your student to your car if you are parked in the main lot
Early Pick Up
Please come into the office to sign out your student!
Anyone who picks up your child MUST be on your Emergency Contact List.
You can update your emergency contacts by logging into Parent Portal.
If you must pick up your student early, plan to pick them up prior to 3:30 pm, however, every effort should be made to alleviate this growing issue by honoring the school schedule.
Attendance Counts!
Children can only thrive in school if they are present in school. Listed below are our definitions of and policies about attendance.
Absence—any day that a student misses school. REMOTE OR IN-PERSON
Late arrivals - After 10:00 am the student will be marked absent for the morning.
Early Dismissal - before 3:00 pm in the student will be marked absent for the PM.
Excused Absence—Any medically documented absence, funeral days, or court date will not be counted against the student.
Excessive Absences:
If a child accumulates 10 absences in a school year, the building administrator will send a letter to inform the parent/guardian
If the child reaches 15 absences in a school year the building administrator will inform the local police department of a potential truancy issue.
The police department will then contact or visit the child’s home to discuss the truancy with the parents.
If the absences reach 20 in a school year, according to law, referrals must be made to the Local Police Department and possibly, the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office.
*Parents are encouraged not to take their children out of school for vacations. Vacation days are considered unexcused.
TARDIES—arrives late for leaves early from school and missing LESS than 55 minutes of school time
Let's Celebrate!
As we return to celebrating birthdays and other special events at school, please follow these guidelines:
- Be sure to make arrangements with your student's teacher PRIOR to sending in treats!
- ALL food treats must be individually wrapped and commercially packaged, with nutritional and ingredient information included.
- Students should bring their treats with them to school - OR - they can be dropped off in the office to be delivered to the classroom.
- In order to promote healthy choices for all students, we ask you to consider NON-FOOD treats such as pencils, stickers, or small trinkets.
Please know that whether a treat is sent in or not, we will be sure to make each student feel very special on their day!
