Can Skateboarding Save Our Schools?

Shared by Rick Wormeli on Monday, please watch this video. It is about 15 minutes long, but makes an excellent point when thinking about how long it takes to learn a concept and the idea of do-overs. This is the most watched TedTalk by educators.

Toll Gate Treasures

As Vikki did last year, she will be putting together two literary publications of our students' work over the course of the year. She hopes to get the first edition out around January 15th. Over the course of the next several months, if you see some spectacular writings by your students, please take a picture, send/share it with Vikki, or let her know and she will scan it for the upcoming edition.

Here is what our Toll Gate Treasures looked like last year:

Homeroom Buddy schedules

Since the consensus was for everyone to plan their own buddy times/days, the main office needs to know when and where you will be meeting IN THE FUTURE, so it can go on the Building Calendar. Please email Lynn or use the link below to list your meeting dates and locations. Thanks!

HVEF Grant Proposals

Dear HVRSD Faculty and Staff,

I am the new chairperson of the Hopewell Valley Education Foundation Grants Committee and I wanted to take this opportunity to introduce myself as well as give you some information about the streamlining of our grant application process. I hope that you find the changes we have made helpful:

Our grant deadline for this Fall is 11/13/2015. For your convenience, I have attached our updated application form and grant guidelines to this email. These documents can also be accessed at: Our guidelines have been updated with a list of the specific criteria HVEF looks for in its proposals, and the application form has been reorganized so that it is easier to fill out.

We are also no longer requiring hard copies of grant proposals. All applications should be sent via email to by the deadline. In addition, we will no longer be asking for in-person presentations of grant proposals during a morning meeting to avoid disrupting the teaching responsibilities of our applicants.

I'm looking forward to reading your applications and learning about all the innovative ideas you have for improving the educational experiences of students in our district. If you have any questions about applying for an HVEF grant, please do not hesitate to contact me by phone (609 865 5379) or email ( or

Best regards,
