GMS Weekly News and Notes
Weekly Updates
This week during X-Block classes, GMS students worked on the Mass STEAM week project, "The Future of Work." Through various activities, students discovered and explored the multitude of Massachusetts STEAM careers. During Wednesday and Thursday's X-Blocks, the students created career business cards or vision boards (depending on grade level) about a career that they found particularly interesting. It was a great experience that generated student interest in future STEAM topics and careers. Please check out the gallery below to see some of our STEAM week highlights. I want to thank our entire GMS staff, and especially our science and visual arts departments, for supporting these projects throughout the week!
The photo to the right displays a collaborative project that Ms. Johansen's classes completed. It required group planning, compromise, and a good deal of trial and error before the final design was finished.
A few other notes as we start a new week:
Bus passes: Passes were issued to students during X Block on Wednesday. There are a handful of students who did not receive a pass and we are working with the transportation department to make sure that every student who should have a pass has one. Students who received their passes should attach it to their book bag or carry it on their person each day. Once we have ensured that all of our students have their bus passes, students will be asked to display the pass to the driver prior to boarding the bus.
Lost and Found: There is a large pile of misplaced water bottles and articles of clothing in our lost and found area. If your child has had something go missing, please encourage them to check the lost and found table located in the gymnasium lobby.
Clarification on calendars: It came to my attention that, at the start of the year, some students received calendars indicating that November 1st was a non-school day for students. The non-school day will be November 8th, which is Election Day and a full-day PD session for all CPS staff. November 1st will be a regular day of school for all students. Apologies for any confusion.
Patriots Spirit Day: All staff and students are encouraged to wear their Patriots gear on Monday, October 24th. The Pats take on the Bears Monday Night in Foxboro in a rematch of Super Bowl XX. Students may wear Pats hats during the day if they choose.

GMS CAPT Corner
THANK YOU from the Galvin CAPT. Our annual "FIT4FUND$" fundraiser was a huge success raising $42,000! A special thanks to all the students and families who collected donations. And a huge shout out and thank you to the faculty, for their support in running the events of the day. Due to the funds raised CAPT will be able to support student programming, guest speakers, offset field trip cost, teacher appreciation and other enrichment opportunities for all grades! It was great to see the smiles on the students’ faces throughout the day! CAPT will wrap up this fun event with raffle prizes and homework passes being announced and distributed during lunch periods later in the month!
At this time all payments have been processed. If you don't see your check cashed etc, please check in with your students. In June about 10 envelopes "APPEARED" to be found from last year fund raiser while cleaning out bags, etc.!!!
Please visit the GMS CAPT Website which has updates on special programs and updated meeting minutes.
Next GMS CAPT Meeting: Monday, November 7th at 6:30PM in the GMS library. All are welcome.
