WM 3rd Grade Curriculum Update

Reading and Writing
Reading
Third graders are studying Mysteries. In Bend 1, students will read several mysteries, working hard to get the mystery. In Bend 2, students will think about shifting from individual mysteries to noticing patterns. In Bend 3, the unit will take a turn. Students will now read fiction and apply what they learned during mysteries.
Writing
During writing students will be working on persuasive/opinion writing. Students will learn to write a thesis statement, provide evidence and organize their writing.
Math
Unit 2: Introduction to Multiplication
- Multiplication in Context
- Multiplying with Arrays & Number Lines
- Ratio Tables & the Multiplication Table
- Story Problems with Graphs & Multiple Operations
Science
3rd Graders rotate through these FOSS Science kits throughout the year.
Energy and Matter: Students learn about the transfer of energy from one form to another.
Sound: Students learn how sound is generated, how it is made louder and softer, higher and lower.
Water: Students learn the properties, changes, and interactions of water.
Social Studies

LMC - Library
Through fiction and nonfiction, we’ll explore themes of gratitude, family, and food. Students will recognize familiar characters and also identify personal connections to the texts.
Music
Technology
Students are learning proper keyboarding technique. They have learned home row and are working on the other keys. The third grade typing goal right now is to type 7 words per minute with 85% accuracy.
Art
How do art and technology connect? (iPad Exploration: Amaziograph App)
PE
We are finishing up our throwing and catching unit and will begin our team challenge and cooperation unit. Students will work together with partners and small groups to complete certain challenges. Towards the end of the month, we will be starting gymnastics!
Guidance
We are finishing our Bullying Prevention Unit. The 3 R's: Recognize, Report and Refuse help us respond to bullying in effective ways. We are also learning how to use bystander power to help stop bullying.
