APRIL
2024
Admin. Message
This month we are rejuvenated as we celebrate the gift of the resurrection of Jesus. This is a time of year that we get to celebrate all the wonderful blessings we have in our lives and have opportunities for new beginnings. Just as Jesus rose from the tomb to triumph over death and give us new life, spring also brings new life to nature that surrounds us. We happily welcome it with open arms, rubber boots and wet socks!
We wish to welcome back Mrs.Sheppard who will be teaching a group of grade 2s in the mornings. We are excited to have her back! There are many great activities to look forward to in April, including a spirit week the week we return. These can be found on our April calendar and please keep checking your Edsby often to stay up to date with all the fun!
We hope everyone has a blessed and joyous Easter!

Registration
Registration for Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten for the fall is now open! Pre-K students must be 3 or 4 and Kindergarten students must be 5 on or before December 31st. Please stop by the office anytime to pick up a registration form. Registration forms were sent home with all current four year old Pre-K students. Pre-Kindergarten
Would you like to give your child a “boost” before he/she starts Kindergarten? Consider Pre-Kindergarten, a FREE education program for 3-5 year olds!
Although open to anyone, preference is given to families who may be in one or more of the following situations:
-single parent family, parent(s) in school, low income
-family receiving social assistance, a child with a behavior or speech problem
What is Pre-Kindergarten?
-it allows children to learn through play in a structured environment.
-it helps children develop language, thinking, behavior, social, fine motor, and gross motor skills.
-it actively involves the family in each child’s education.
When is Pre-Kindergarten?
Children attend classes for 3 hours per day Monday-Thursday and families may request morning or afternoon classes. The program operates from September to June and new students are accepted throughout the year as spaces become available.
Where are the Pre-Kindergartens?

Faith Committee
It is the Easter season! Our new Saint is: St. Philip Neri. He was born in Italy in 1515 and was a priest who was known for being humble, charming and funny. One day he asked for the gifts of the Holy Spirit and a fire appeared before him and he swallowed it! After that, it was found that his heart had swollen to twice the normal size and 2 of his ribs were broken. He reminds us that humour is a great way to bring people together, and to always stay humble. For our service project this month we will be collecting first aid supplies for an orphanage in Mexico.
SCC Basket Raffle
Beginning April 8 the SCC will selling raffle tickets on a number of fabulous themed baskets made up by each classroom. Tickets will be $2.00 or 10 for $10.00.

Mural Project
A quick update on our school murals. Kevin Pee-ace came and worked alongside classes and small groups of students to design, draw and paint the murals. All classes from pre-K to grade 7 participated, and every student that was at school those days were able to paint part of the mural. We are excited to see the murals up on our walls after the Easter break! Again, a HUGE thank you to Sk Arts for the grant to be able to do this project in our school, and a big thank you to Kevin Pee-ace for coming to share his God given gift of art with our students.
Morning Arrival
Parents are asked to NOT send your child to school before 8:30am. We want your children to be safe and there are no teachers on supervision until 8:30. All students may arrive then go to the playground to play until the entrance bell at 8:50. All students, including kindergarten students, should be outside playing while waiting for the bell to ring. Students should line up at their own doors once the bells ring.
All students are to enter and exit through their assigned doors. The only grades entering and exiting through the main doors are Pre-k and Kdg. If you are picking your child up after school, please arrange a meeting spot outside for the student to find you waiting. They will be expected to come around to the front of the school using their assigned doors, not the front doors.
Spring Attire
Finally we see signs of spring! Please dress your child appropriately for the change in weather, layering in the morning and discarding jackets, mitts etc. in the afternoon. Splash pants and rubber boots are a wonderful idea. We ask that our older students also have indoor and outdoor shoes to avoid dragging mud into our building. It is a good idea to include an extra pair of socks in the backpacks, as well, for those extra wet days. Please write your child’s name on their clothing and boots. With limited shopping places in the Battlefords, we often see many pairs of the same rubber boots. We want to ensure that all students leave at the end of the day with all the articles of outerwear and the correct footwear.
Thanks.
Staff Dress Down
Our staff chose to donate to Concern For Youth by having a designated week to dress down. Staff wore jeans and a sticker through the week of March 18-21 and we raised $155.00 for Concern for Youth and the programs they provide to our community.
Battlefords Humane Society
Our students brought in spare change and filled their cup for the Humane Society. We were able to collect $155.00 and a cheque was presented to Mrs. Elder at the school.
Thank You
