Volume 2, Issue1 - August 17, 2018
Welcome to a new school year! We are so excited about partnering with you in educating your children.
As a parent, I struggle every day to know what my daughter has done at school. I ask: "How was your day?", and she politely responds: "Well, thank you, what about yours?" and that's as much as I can find out! So I have started changing how I ask the question, and instead I may ask: "Did anyone do anything silly to make you laugh?" or "What was the best thing that happened today?" And the conversation really changes! If you want more ideas of questions you can ask your student every day for great conversations, HERE is a fantastic list to help you out!

You will notice that we have added a new teacher to Industrial Technology to support Mr. Helmick and to address the large numbers in our elective courses. As a result of this late addition, some schedules will be changed. We will communicate the change to the students affected.
RtI
While this change in RtI will benefit your student in their reading and math skills, it will reduce the amount of time they have during the day to complete homework for their classes. Please, be mindful of this as you organize your student's time in the evening!
Drop off/Pick up Procedures
- Students must be in their classroom no later than 7:30 am. Students need to be in the building at 7:20 am. Plan accordingly.
- Students can be dropped off at 6:55 am. Doors open at 7:00 am, but we will let them into the building earlier depending on the weather.
- Pull up as far as you can in front of the building to drop off your student.
- Encourage your student to get out of the car as soon as you are by the curve. You don't have to wait until you are in front of the building, even if it is raining...
- All students must be picked up or dropped off by the curb. If you park in the lot, escort your child to and from the car.
- Cars may begin entering the bus area at 7:20 am or when the buses have left.
- Pick up your student(s) no later than 3:00 pm, unless they are staying for a supervised after-school activity.
- Parents need to make arrangements with their students ahead of time for pick up. Make sure you communicate with them if they are to ride the bus or wait to be picked up. If you need to call the office to change arrangements it must be done before 2:00 pm.
*** Traffic regulations apply at Gentry Middle School - Do not speed, and use the correct lane when turning (Use right lane if turning right, left lane if turning left) ***
Please, be mindful of the fact that we need to get over 900 students into the building in about 20 minutes! Don't use the The Jack Butler Method at Gentry!
Let Them Be Responsible
We are asking our teachers to be graceful while our students get used to the routines of the school year. Please, partner with us while we help our students grow.

Pull Tabs
Save your pull tabs! The Gentry Builders Club saves pull tabs throughout the school year and donates those to Ronald McDonald House in April. They receive a donation from the recycling company for the tabs that have been donated. This is one of our service projects, and we would love your help with saving/collecting them. They are on soda cans, canned vegetables, soup, cat food, etc. Feel free to collect them in Ziploc bags or grocery bags and bring them to the main office or to Mrs. Froidl’s room (205). Thanks for your help.
All School Fall Play Auditions!
No Body To Murder – by Edith Weiss
6 males, 12 females, plus 2 roles that can be either
Bad news threatens the guests of the Come On Inn of Nova Scotia – severe thunderstorms and an escaped convict! By the end of the day, gung-ho aerobics instructor Billie Body is mysteriously murdered during a power outage. Was it the cook’s lemonade that poisoned her, or did someone else have a hand in Body’s death? Who would have the audacity to commit murder under so many noses? Inspector Black, on the scene in search of the escaped convict, has his job cut out for him. As the winds howl, suspicions range from Garth the gardener (who weeds with an axe) to an inept doctor on holiday from malpractice suits to a hairdresser who constantly changes her appearance. Everyone has a hidden motive to want Billie Body dead. After all, she does have abs “to die for!”
Auditions are August 21, August 22, and August 23 in Room 100A. Pick up an audition form and put a completed copy in Ms. Bills’ mailbox by August 20!
