Bobcat Bulletin

Week of April 19th

Principal Petrick Message

Hello Bobcat Families,

What a gloriously sunny week we enjoyed at FVES. There's no better sight than watching the kids play on the playground with the sun glistening off the lake in the background. What a beautiful setting that we all get to enjoy each day here at FVES.

This week we got our community gardens filled with new planting soil courtesy of Forest Hills Farms. Some of our classes made it out this week to plant their seeds in their classroom flowerbeds. So great seeing our students outside and enjoying nature. Speaking of great, it was fantastic to see so many students in their beach gear the last two days. What a fun week at FVES!

Go Bobcats!

The Hillsboro School District is curious about your perspectives on your Comprehensive Distance Learning experience from this year. We hope to take the positives from CDL and utilize them in the future to provide the best support possible. We are also hoping that we will be returning in person next Fall and this survey asks questions about next Fall as well. Thank you in advanced for completing this survey to help us plan get better.

6th Grade Promotion

The Hillsboro School District has not yet announced permission or guidelines for end of year celebrations. Guidelines are going to be based on country metrics and will likely not be shared until well into May. We'll keep our fingers crossed and hope that we can have a celebration for our 6th grade students. Once we know for sure, Mrs. Rinck and Fleming will be working on plans.

SBAC Testing

In non pandemic school years, the State of Oregon requires a battery of state assessments (commonly referred to as SBAC Testing) for students in grades 3 - 11. Due to the instability of this year, the normal levels of testing will not occur. However, there will a modified testing plan that will take students about an hour to complete. More information on the schedule and testing information will be forthcoming. As in normal years, parents may opt their student out of testing. SBAC tests provide schools with information on how their students are performing in relation to students across the district and state of Oregon.

Virtual Outdoor School

As with many things this past year, Outdoor School will be a little different for our 6th graders. Camps are not allowed to operate overnight experiences so they have created ODS experiences that will be led by camp counselors through a virtual format.

Adding Students to Hybrid

We've enjoyed getting to see some students who were in CDL, choosing to join us in Hybrid. As long as we have space in our classrooms, we will consider adding CDL students as guidelines allow.

We've also had some requests to have Hybrid students have more days at school. This will be an unlikely option but one that we will monitor as we move into May.
