Gail Loftis
A little bit about Gail:
* I moved to Texas from Florida in 1989 with my husband and sons.
* I'm mother to Kyle, 33 and Evan, 29. Both of my sons attended West.
* After many years of teaching pre-school, I gained my alternative certification in Special Ed and began teaching at West.
* As a former West and RHS band parent, I'm proud to say that my grandson, Hayden, is following in his father's and uncle's footsteps by playing the euphonium at Spring Creek.
*In my free time I like reading and loom knitting.
*Being a member of the West family has been an important part of my life for the past 11 years.
A note from Kimberly
It's definitely starting to feel like fall! Fall is one of my favorite times of the year. I love thinking about Thanksgiving - the food, family, fellowship, a week off from school :), and just all the reasons to be thankful.
We are gearing up for Magnet Night. Our staff meeting this week will be dedicated to talking about the logistics of that night and what role we will all play. Dinner will be provided by the PTA for you on Magnet Night.
Every week it seems we have more and more students who are in need of counseling services to prevent them from hurting themselves. If we suspect a student is in need of assistance, please refer them to administrator, counselor, or Officer Ledgerwood right away. Thank you for being proactive in watching and assisting our students in need.
Gearing up for another week!

Honor Veterans Day
Veterans day is November 11th. We are going to honor some local veterans by making a veterans day basket to be delivered to the VA hospital in Dallas. We are asking West staff members bring items to donate to fill the basket. Think about items that Veterans at the hospital might use (house shoes, socks, hankies, candy, toiletries, books, magazines) You can bring your item to Mrs. Rivera’s desk by Wednesday 11-11. . Thanks for your help!! WEST is BEST!

Who's Working at West? Get to know - Bill Parker
1) Tell us a little bit about your time as a teacher. What did you teach? What age groups?
I taught science at L.V. Berkner High School for five years. I taught IPC, then Principles of Technology, and Physics.
My last two years at Berkner, I also served as an Instructional Specialist.
2) What made you want to become an administrator?
I always took a strong interest in helping students. When I was assigned as an Instructional Specialist, I came to realize that through instructional leadership I could influence the quality of education for thousands of students, rather than the 150 or so in my classes.
It was suggested that I think about becoming a principal. I pursued that goal, which brings me to where I am today.
3) What is the most surprising/unexpected factoid about your family?
I am a descendent of an original settler of Jamestown (Virginia) and in 1692, I had a relative, Mary Parker that was hanged during the Salem Witch Trials. Mary was convicted almost solely from the testimony from two teenage confessors. Her examination, indictment, and grand inquest all took place expediently, and within one month, Mary was accused, convicted, and executed.
4) To celebrate your time at West, you and Ms. Cage decide to get matching tattoos. What tattoo would it be?
Maybe we already have…you may never know…
5) Led Zeppelin or AC/DC?
That’s like asking a parent which child is their favorite?! Not cool!!!
Led Zeppelin is amazing…but there’s nothing like hearing those first chords of Back in Black to get your blood moving. AC/DC – All Day – Every DAY!!
