Dear Brooklyn Collaborative Families,
We want YOU at AppleFest this Saturday, October 27th from 11:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. at 610 Henry Street!
AppleFest is run by BCS and BNS parents working together and always has been. It's our time to hang out as a community, play fun games, see the dance team, listen to BCS bands, and watch the cheer squad perform.
Make sure to come out on Saturday and bring FREE popcorn and game coupons your kids are being handed by crew leaders.

Halloween Costume Reminders
- We will have a regular day of classes on Wednesday, 10/31.
- For Halloween, please note that costumes are fine but students are not permitted to have masks or props that look like weapons

- As the weather has quickly changed from balmy summer temperatures to crisp fall temperatures, please remind your child to their bring coast every day to recess.

Title I Parent Committee & Title I Rep Election - Tuesday, November 13th
- WHAT:Title I Parent Committee and Title I Rep. Please attend this meeting if you are interested in being on the Title 1 Parent Committee that will serve as the consultative and representative body at Brooklyn Collaborative regarding the Title I program or interested in running for the Title I representative on the School Leadership Team (SLT). A key role of the Title I representative on the PTA is to articulate the parent issues connected to Title I to the SLT and school administration.

- WHAT: Future Artists Program a FREE, intensive 14-week program in a variety of disciplines to high school students living in the Tri-State Area. Calling all Dancers, Dramatic Writers, Film Scholars, Filmmakers, Game Designers , Imagemakers (Photography & Imaging), Music Moguls (Recorded Music), & Theatre Artists (Drama)

Panels, Book Fair, and College Essay Review Station For Teen Writers 13-19 yrs
- WHAT: Teen Writers’ Summit is a diverse platform for teens to assess and advocate for their writing by engaging with literary landscapes. The Summit will include panel discussions, a college/book fair, and a college essay review station. Writopia teen leaders curated hour-long panel discussions featuring Scholastic Art & Writing representatives, PEN America representatives, directors of undergraduate creative writing programs, literary magazine and book editors, literary agents, and established authors, journalists, playwrights, and comedians

- Students in Upper Grades Drama class embodied three core values--responsible, courageous and collaborative--while building their ensemble!

AFTER SCHOOL OPPORTUNITIES
YWCA @ BCS After School Program: Grades 6 - 8
- This week, the YWCA After-School Program at BCS’s cooking class made their own Mayonnaise! Students learned the science behind preparing this simple dressing. They learned about measurements, seasoning/ingredients and how to accurately follow a recipe.
- Our students also learned the importance of working as a team and how to delegate tasks among their group. The participants were able to take the mayonnaise home and try it with their families and friends.
- Our art class learned how to create Origami! Several of our 6th graders enjoyed creating fun shapes and learning how to master this fun yet simple form of art.

YWCA After School Dance Class Preps for Apple Fest Performance
- Afters school dance class rehearsal is loads of fun!

Box Tops for Education Box Tops for Education
- BCS participates in the Box Tops for Education program. This program provides schools with a way to raise funds by turning in cut-out box tops from specially marked General Mills products.
- Each collected box top can be redeemed for ten cents.
- Please collect your box tops and submit them to Tracey in Rm 41
