Vienna-Finley DI Team Competes!
Vienna-Finley had it's first kindergarten and first grade Rising Stars team participate in Destination Imagination on Saturday, February 24th. They did a magnificent job! They received many compliments from the judges on their presentation titled "Friends Everywhere!" They are coached by Sarah Broady and Brittany Banister and the team members were Caleb Salas, Chevelle Francis, Grace Nunley, Madaline Allgood, Claire Banister, Jaxon Owens and Griffin Owens.
Two great things we love are Vienna-Finley and Chillers! They are teaming up on the first Wednesday of each month. Just mention Vienna-Finley when ordering (all day) and 20% of your sale will go to help our school. Thanks for helping Vienna-Finley and enjoy your Chillers!
Mrs. Liz Wimp Honored with "This Bud's For YOU!" Award at Vienna-Finley Elementary School!
During recent staff meeting, Mrs. Tammy Staser, the previous recipient of the "This Bud's for YOU!" Award at Vienna-Finley, presented Mrs. Liz Wimp with the award for the month of March. Staser, the Title One Coordinator at Vienna-Finley, stated the following in honor of Wimp, a first-grade teacher at Vienna-Finley: "Choosing a person for the This Bud’s For You award was tough. Each of the teachers at VFES deserve to be celebrated for their efforts in education not only for our children, but one another. Because I had to narrow it down to one person, I chose someone who has played an important role in my personal life, when I was a fairly new mom, as well as playing a huge role in my professional life. The person I choose to honor today is Liz Wimp. When I first met Liz, over 15 years ago, she worked at Miss Amy’s Daycare, where she cared for my own children. All of these years later, she is still taking care of children as a teacher now. It is her true destiny. One of the things I appreciate about Liz is her willingness to continue to grow as an educator. When she has a question, she doesn’t hesitate to ask her fellow educators for their insight. Liz values the professionalism of her peers. Last year, she volunteered to be trained on Orton Gillingham, a school training that took her away from her own family for 4 days. When new technology or curriculum is introduced, she doesn’t shy away from it. She dives in and becomes a leader for anyone who may need assistance. Liz is a shining light for the kids in her classroom. Her positive, encouraging, loving attitude is shared with all of the students. It is never reserved for only a few. One of her students from last year told me when I asked him his favorite thing about Mrs. Wimp, he said, “She helped us learn a lot!” Then he replied, “…and she made me happy!” The 3 other kids in the group that I was working with, that have had Mrs. Wimp, quickly agreed. If we can help students learn and be happy like Liz does, then we should truly feel blessed with our accomplishments. I am so grateful for my professional and personal relationship with Liz. As she strives to make her students better, she actually is doing the same for me." Congratulations Mrs. Wimp!
Please keep those Box Tops coming! We need you to continue to send in Box Tops! Our next competition will end on Friday, March 16. The class with the most collected will win an ice cream party!
The process of developing next year’s class rosters will be underway by the beginning of May. Building equitable grade level sections is important, and many factors are considered when making placement decisions. To the greatest extent possible, classes are balanced with regard to students’ ability, achievement, special needs, gender, and ethnicity. Parents/guardians know their child better than anyone and they’re encouraged to share pertinent insight before teachers are assigned. In addition, a system is in place to enable parents/guardians, with a valid educational reason, to request a specific teacher for their child. Please note the following guidelines if you plan to make such a request.
Request forms must be submitted to the building principal before the deadline of March 16. Forms can be obtained from the school office.
Only requests involving valid educational reasons will be approved.
Parents must provide details about their student’s specific needs along with reasons they believe the requested teacher is uniquely qualified to meet those needs.
Determination letters will be mailed to parents.
A process is in place to enable parents to appeal denied requests.
