Stinson M.S. Principal's Corner
November 2021
Message from the Principal
Dear Parents and Students,
As we begin the second nine weeks, we continue to see our students engaging in their learning and participating in clubs and extra-curricular events. Football and volleyball seasons are coming to a close, and basketball tryouts begin November 1st. If your child is interested in trying out for basketball, please have them speak to any of our coaches.
Please review this newsletter carefully for upcoming events and important information to support your students at Stinson.
In addition, the SMORES Counselor and Librarian Newsletter links are included in this newsletter, including information about the November Book Fair and information on Magnet Schools.
I often ask my own child about her day, and as you would expect, the response is usually "good." To help me get a better picture about her day, I have begun to ask her more specific questions, and I have listed some below. I encourage you to also ask your students some of these questions about their day:
1) What challenged you today?
2) What was the funniest thing that happened today?
3) What is your teacher's most important rule?
4) What is one thing you did today that was helpful?
Hope these questions promote some meaningful conversations with your students.
Just a final reminder to visit our website regularly, https://www.nisd.net/stinson and Twitter page @NISDSTINSON for updated information throughout the month, and we look forward to seeing you at our November athletic and fine arts events.
May you all have a safe November and glorious Thanksgiving.
With Skyhawk Pride,
Lou Medina, Principal

Stinson San Antonio Food Bank Fundraiser and Food Drive
Please join us in raising money for the SA Food Bank from November 1st - November 18th. You may send food items for the food drive with your student, or you may make donations to the link below.
https://my.safoodbank.org/StinsonMiddleSchool
The Food Bank will collect donated items on Friday, Nov. 19th, prior to Thanksgiving.
We will be collecting through PE, Athletic and Dance classes. We will have a competition for breakfast tacos or pizza between all three groups: athletics, dance, and PE.
We will encourage all students to bring their donations to the cafeteria each morning, so the coach on breakfast duty can tally what the students brought, and the students don't have to carry around the donated items with them throughout the day.
Thank you in advance for your support.
Fall Dance Performance
Removal from School during the School Day
If your child has a doctor’s appointment or must leave early for any reason, please send a note with your child identifying the time you plan to pick him/her up and the reason for the early release. This note should be taken to the attendance office prior to 8:40 am on the morning of the appointment. However, students will not be called down to the office until the parent has checked into the front office.
Parent/Guardian must have an ID to pick up a student and be listed as a contact or emergency contact.
After 3:45 p.m., requests to sign-out students to leave campus will not be taken due to the amount of time that it will take to bring a student to the office. The end of the day is often a very busy time and asking for students to be signed-out at the last minute puts an undue burden on our staff. If you are planning to sign-out your student early, please plan accordingly.
What if I want to bring lunch for my student?
1) Come into the front office and notify the secretaries. Make sure you are a contact or an emergency contact for the student.
2) Show your ID.
3) Lunch can only be provided for your student (not other students).
4) IF you would like to eat with your child, you will need to sign him/her out at the attendance office, show your ID.
5) Parents can eat with their student outside on the outdoor patio tables.
NO Food deliveries are allowed.
Do not just have your student meet you at the front doors/foyer to collect the food you are delivering.
