OMS Honors and Salutes Our Veterans!
Osborne Middle School Veterans
"Courage is almost a contradiction in terms. It means a strong desire to live taking the form of readiness to die."
~G.K. Chesterton
This Sunday, our nation will celebrate Veterans’ Day, a day to commemorate the men and women who have served our country in its armed forces, who have risked life and treasure to protect and defend our rights and freedom as the people of the United States of America. The Osborne community of staff and students honor those members of our staff who are also veterans. Thank you for your service to our country and to all of us here at Osborne.

OMS Bistro's Book Tasting
As culminating events for our Teentober celebration, the OMS Media Center staff presented the OMS Bistro’s Book Tasting during which over four hundred students sampled tastings of over 40 books from a variety of genres that had in common a “creepy” theme. Over six hundred students had the opportunity to experience a Harry Potter themed escape room. Everyone had a great time celebrating our love of reading this month. Check out some pictures of our events below.

The Book Fair Is Coming! Mark Your Calendars!
The Media Center staff is happy to announce the OMS Holiday Super Hero book fair will be December 2-6. This year our vendor will be Follett Books, and we are very excited about what they have to offer. Purchasing from our book fair not only benefits our school in multiple ways, it also provides your child the chance to put down the devices, turn off the TV and engage with characters in a whole new way. Reading with your child regularly allows you both to enjoy the adventure together.
Our book fair will run Monday through Friday, December 2-6, 9:00-3:50. We will also have a family night on Tuesday, December 3, 5:30-7:00 PM, in coordination with the sixth grade orchestra concert. Language arts teachers will each sign up for a time to bring their students to the media center to see what the book fair has to offer; students may also visit the book fair during homeroom each morning and throughout the day as their teachers will permit. Parents may visit the book fair any day during regular hours by first signing in at the front desk. A safe alternative to sending your child to school with money is a digital gift card, which can be purchased at www.follettgift.com. These gift cards are printable – you simply purchase the card, print it (we suggest typing your student’s name in the notes section so it can be easily identified in the event your student misplaces it), and send it to school with your child! You could also mention this to grandparents and other loved ones, who might want to give the gift of literacy to their favorite child! Gift cards are available in a variety of denominations beginning at $10. They have no expiration date, and they make great teachers’ gifts, which will help teachers build their classroom libraries.
Winter Social Information
Yearbook Announcement!
We are nearing the end of our fall campaign for yearbook sales, which means that the price will be increasing in January! Once the price goes up and we near our deadlines, you will no longer have the option to personalize your child’s yearbook. We have already sold nearly half of our yearbook order, so don’t delay: order your child’s yearbook today at the low price of $40. Also, parents of eighth graders, don’t forget that you have the opportunity for the first time to purchase a recognition/tribute ad for your student, but the deadline of November 15th is quickly approaching. If you are interested, please be sure that you get your information in by the deadline. Check it all out at www.jostens.com.
Registrar's Corner
We continuously update student files to ensure our records include the documents required by Gwinnett County Public Schools. These documents include immunization forms (GA Form 3231), Dental, Vision, Hearing and Nutrition forms (GA FORM 3300), proof of residency, utility bills, and a copy of a valid parent ID, such as a driver's license. Some legal documents also require annual updates such as leases and utility bills.
Please note that Proof of Residency is required to be updated whenever a student moves to a new residence. Also, if you move out of our school zone, it is GCPS policy that parent/guardians notify the school of their new address as soon as possible. A Change of Address form must be completed at school, and an updated photocopy of your ID, a copy of your lease or closing statement, and a new utility bill or a letter of service from one of your utility providers should be given to the registrar.
Please email the registrar directly at: Paulette_Reynolds@gwinnett.k12.ga.us should you have any questions.
