Sustainability Education in our Schools
The U.N. 17 sustainable development goals (SDGs)
- The U.N. has 17 sustainable development goals “to transform our world”. You can read about the goals here and you can see them in the graphic above. This is a great place for educators to start educating themselves. It’s also a great way to involve students in the discussion. You could share the 17 goals with students and ask them to choose which goal they would like to have an impact on. This could lead to a student-driven passion project that could impact the world. How are you seeing these 17 SDG's in action on your campus?
CA EP&C’s
- California has Environmental Principles and Concepts (EP & C’s). These are built into the latest History-Social Science and Science State Standards, and will be incorporated into VAPA, ELA, and more by 2022. These elements can be integrated within just about any class with some purposeful planning and new resources. How are you seeing the EP & C's in action on your campus?

Know My Story/ Know Our Story -- 5 Facts about Us
Robyn Litt - TOSA
I came from three generations of artists (wildlife artists, painters, and sculptors) and managed to get a “D” in art class on a drawing in middle school for a still life of a grandfather clock that, I suspect, looked more like a Dali than a Rembrandt.Ah well! It was a little “melty” and “crooked” but still! While it slowed down my formal educational adventures in art, I continued in my own style and worked as an abstract painter and sculptor in my twenties with a modestly successful career. Now... I just paint for “zen” moments!
- I guess I’ve always been interested in civics! In high school, I skipped band class for two weeks in protest against our director who threw temper tantrums in class. I sat in plain sight in the study hall area and eventually they noticed. I had to sort music for him for two weeks...it was worth it!
- My family moved all the time. My dad worked as a Postal Inspector and later managed all of Los Angeles region Postal Services. We moved every couple of years. In sixth grade I moved twice in one year! My sister, brother, and I were really great at building moving box forts! Super cool!
- In middle school, my best friends were identical triplets. My parents were always guessing which ones were at the house at any given moment.
- My first three 45 records (yes, I said “45’s” - look it up!) were “One Bad Apple”by the Osmonds, “Half-Breed” by Cher (definitely not politically correct now), and “Brand New Key” by Melanie (obscure, but worth listening and laughing about).
