Dolphin Digest
Weekly Update #44
Week of June 8th!
WMES Parents/Guardians,
Happy Friday! Yearbooks have arrived! Students who pre-ordered will receive their yearbook 6/10. We have additional copies on sale. If you would like a copy, please call the school to secure one. The cost is $21.00
We are asking families to mark their calendars for June 2 and June 9th so they can drop off any school materials such as books or manipulatives.
All students will need to turn in their TCPS issued iPad and charger to their homeroom teacher while at school. iPad collection will be as follows:
- Virtual Pre-K: The week of June 14th (iPads and chargers)
- In-person Pre-K-5: All in-person iPads will be collected by homeroom teachers. If a TCPS technician or service contractor deems that damage caused to equipment was the result of neglect or malicious intent, parents will be notified and may be responsible for the cost of repair.
- K-5 Virtual students will need to drop off their iPads and chargers to the front office either on 6/17 or 6/18.
Please be advised that the last day of school for the 2020-2021 school year will be Thursday, June 17, 2021, which is a half-day. The last day of Pre-Kindergarten will be on Friday, June 11, 2021.
We will thrive in 2021 because we are #!WMES STRONG! Thank you for your continued support. Stay safe and well!

The Reading Corner
Smartphones can be a way to connect with others and make our lives easier, but their overuse can interfere with parent-child interactions. Here are 3 tips that might help you.
Create regular tech-free times: As part of the daily routine, make devices (e.g., televisions, phones, computers, games or other electronics) off limits at specific times. Dinnertime and before bedtime are important ones, but more extended breaks from technology each day are desirable, especially for families with very young children. You can also limit digital distractions by creating tech-free rooms/zones in the house, such as the kitchen table. If you're sitting around the table texting while eating, you are not connecting. Teach your child to connect by connecting.
Designate tech-free outings: A trip to the farm or the zoo, a playdate in the park, a day at the pool. Most parents love taking pictures of their kids and sharing moments on Facebook, but an activity can go undocumented every once in a while. Putting the phone away allows everyone to enjoy fun, uninterrupted moments to focus on talking and communicating with each other.
Use technology in an interactive way: If you are using a phone or other device, use it with your kids—together. Talk about what you see, ask them questions, and otherwise engage them face-to-face.

PBIS Parent Corner
Over the last few weeks, we have shared ways you can practice being Responsible, Respectful, and Safe with your child. In addition to teaching, rewarding, and reminding, you may need to correct behavior.
When a child makes an error, provide a quick correction or redirection. For example, if you observe your child showing disrespect to others:
1. Quickly correct or signal the error, (“That was not respectful”)
2. Re-state the expected behavior, (“We speak kindly to each other to show respect”)
3. Provide an opportunity for positive interaction, (“Let’s try that again. How would you show respect?”)
4. Provide the child positive feedback, (“That was a kind thing to say.”)
