Principal's Message
Our Student Council has been working overtime preparing for SPIRIT WEEK. The students were painting the one way with their class theme. Every day is a public display of our school's solidarity as Patriots. Goofy games and the pep rally will continue outside at JFK stadium.
The Student Council after determining the pros/cons regarding the homecoming dance, has recommended a postponement of the dance to a later date. The PHSO has started a fund drive to rent a large tent for the evening. I salute all the parents, teachers and most of all students who worked together in a positive spirit to advance this tradition. More details will be coming forth from the Student Council.
Have a fun week,
J. Amaral

The Student Council met on Thursday, September 30 with members of the PHS Administration to review several proposals for our Homecoming Dance. Mr. Amaral shared the indoor restrictions from the Department of Health and the attendance procedures. We want to thank the Administration for working with us in order to both host our dance and maintain the safety of all involved.
After meeting with the Administration, we identified and voted on several potential dates in October and November in order to host the dance. Availability of a tent large enough to accommodate everyone will determine the ultimate date for the dance. As soon as the date becomes official, we will communicate it to the community.
We are working with members of the Parents Helping Students Organization (PHSO) to secure necessary resources to make this event a reality. The Student Council members are also soliciting teachers to chaperone for this event. If necessary, we may solicit parent volunteers to assist with supervision and chaperoning. More details will be shared as soon as they become available.
For more specifics, see your Class Council Reps. The simplest way to help your class is to dress up for each of the theme days. Your Class Council will need help with other activities; don't hesitate to get involved and reach out to your Class Council representatives. If you have any questions regarding any activities or events, talk to your Class Council Representatives and/or Advisory teacher.
We look forward to an exciting week of events!

Suicide Prevention Month
For the month of September, the Portsmouth High School mental health team will be working to promote suicide prevention and awareness. A major focus of suicide prevention is rooted in actions that can promote healing, help, and give hope. At the core of our prevention activities, we want to ensure that students have/are aware of the tools of self-care that allow us to maintain physical health & welfare and perceptions of safety & security. One way we can help to achieve this is through self-care planning. We have implemented an advisory activity to promote self-care strategies for all students at PHS.
In addition, there are resources available in each of the cafeterias and scrolling on the screens throughout the building. We have added QR codes that students can scan from the privacy of their lunch table so that there is no pressure to gather paper copies of information.
We will also be providing resources for parents and caretakers at the open house on Thursday 9/16/2021. Please look out for that information being posted on our Parent Portal website following the open house.
