NEWS FROM MRS. HILCHER- PRINCIPAL OF TIMBERLINE ELEMENTARY
Week of January 17 - January 21
COVID-19 Reminders
We continue to encourage the 3 Ws: wearing a mask, washing hands, and watching your distance. These are 3 simple steps that if we all practice together will protect our community.
I want to reiterate to all of our families the importance of monitoring your child closely for COVID-like symptoms each day prior to sending them to school. If your child displays any symptoms, you should keep them home from school and get them tested. This is especially important for students who have been deemed contacts due to exposure. Please email your child’s teacher and the front office at jessica.alomarperez@gcisd.net to report your child’s illness.
We appreciate your help in keeping our community healthy!

Play it Safe
GCISD offers the "Play It Safe" program for all students in grades K-5. The GCISD School Health Advisory Council (SHAC is a volunteer council comprised of parents and community members that reflect the values of the district and community) has previewed and recommended these programs for all GCISD elementary schools. The curriculum and presentations are aligned with district philosophy. This program is a personal safety program and does not address human sexuality. Play It Safe is a child abuse prevention and awareness program that incorporates individual grade level, age-appropriate scripts and movies to teach children how to reduce the risk of sexual and physical abuse, and sexual assault. It teaches them to recognize potentially abusive behavior, provides the tools to respond to threatening situations, and encourages them to report abuse to a trusted adult.
The Women's Center of Tarrant County, Inc., uses trained employees to present a fact-based personal safety program for students. The presentations are classroom-based so that children are in a familiar environment, and feel comfortable to interact with the trainer. A video is shown, followed by a question and answer time.
Your child’s school will be showing Play It Safe to students on 2/17/21 and 2/18/21
Parents have the option to request that their student not participate in the above program(s). The form for non-participation is located on the GCISD website:
https://www.gcisd.net Students, Health and Physical Education, Nonparticipation forms.
You can also fill out this form if you would like your student(s) not to participate in the program.
You can view the recorded parent preview here.
If you are unable to view the parent preview, but wish to view the material, please contact The Women's Center of Tarrant County, Inc. at 817-927-4040 and ask for the Play It Safe department.

Times are flexible for volunteering to support teachers in this manner. The library can use volunteers as well to reshelve library books. If you would like to volunteer at Timberline, don’t hesitate to reach out to your child’s teacher or our Family Engagement Specialist, Norma McManus. As a reminder, all volunteers must complete a volunteer background check each school year with GCISD. The form can be accessed HERE. If you would like to come up to Timberline to volunteer, please take the time to complete this form. Please call Norma McManus in the front office for any assistance.
