Gamma Alpha Mensajera

Winter 2014

News & Updates

We hope this message finds you in good spirits and that you are surviving this vicious polar vortex! Gamma Alpha had a wonderful fall term. We held a Women Empowerment Week with events such as a healthy relationships workshop, a film screening, Pink Links, and participated in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk. We also held a winter retreat in which we planned our winter term programming and spent some quality time together!

Upcoming Events

We have several upcoming events throughout the winter term and a handful of dates on our spring term calendar as well! It would be a privilege for you to join us for any of our upcoming events. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to reach out to our Alumnae Chair, Mary Jane ‘Anala’ Pacheco via email at pacheco.maryjane@gmail.com or by phone at 651.329.4447.

Undergraduate Spotlight

We would like to introduce you to Stephanie ‘Ahisma’ Tapia #95, Gamma Alpha Chapter Vice President of Program Development and Vice President of Finance! Stephanie is currently a sophomore at DePaul, majoring in Elementary Education with a concentration in Bilingual Education. In addition to her position as Gamma Alpha Chapter Vice President, Stephanie is also a Golden Apple Scholar, a Corps Member with JumpStart, and a Cosmetologist at Walgreens. Her career goals include teaching in an underdeveloped country, completing five years in a school of need in the Chicago area, and becoming qualified to teach children with learning disabilities.

When asked what her favorite thing is about being a Gamma, Stephanie said, “Being able to take on leadership roles and being able to balance my academic and personal life.” She lives by the quote, “Those who try to do something and fail are infinitely better than those who try to do nothing and succeed.” - Lloyd Jones
