Archbishop Kucera Grant
St. Cecilia Catholic School Board of St. Cecilia School is the recipient of $8,665.56 from the Archbishop Kucera Grant Awards from the Archdiocese of Dubuque Educational Development Fund. The grant was awarded for tuition assistance to those families who can least afford the cost of attending a Catholic School. A portion of the grant was also directed towards tuition assistance for minority students who qualify for National School Lunch Program. Awards for these two programs totaled $475,000 for the 2013/14 program year.
The Archbishop Kucera Grant Awards annually provides $80,000 for faith formation resources and leadership development for faith formation leaders, catechists, Catholic school administrators and teachers. The grant also covers one third of the program cost for adults enrolled in the Archdiocesan IMPACT Program.
The Archdiocesan Educational Development Fund was developed for the purpose of supporting the educational programs of the Archdiocese. This is the twenty-eighth year that grants have been awarded. Over 8.3 million dollars have been distributed since the Archdiocesan Educational Development Fund was established. Grants are made possible through the generous donations of contributors and parishioners throughout the Archdiocese.
Spring Break is just around the corner, let’s hope spring follows. With the new season, we are preparing for Mileage Club! Mileage Club is sponsored by Mary Greeley Medical Center and encourages kids to become more physically active and healthy by walking and running at lunch recess during the 8-week program. Students earn toe tokens for every 5 miles of walking or running and a grand prize at 25 miles! We will be walking and running at lunch recesses Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Assuming the weather permits, we’ll begin Thursday, March 27th. We are looking for parent volunteers to help mark cards at these recesses. Grades 3-5 have recess at 11:40-12:00 and K-2 from 12:00-12:20.

REMEMBER: Parents, grandparents, and younger siblings are invited to join their child(ren) for walking or running at any time! Thank you for supporting this great opportunity for the students. Notes from the Principal
Urgent/2014-2015 commitment forms for School/Preschool and Owls Club
Your completion of the 2014-2015 Commitment Form for School, Preschool and Owls Club is crucial in our planning for the following school year. These forms were due on March 14th and we only have received 60% of these forms back. Please make this a priority over spring break to complete this form and return it on Monday, March 24th. Even if you are not returning to St. Cecilia School, please complete your name and write the district name you’ll be attending anywhere on page 1. We appreciate your assistance in this matter.
I hope everyone has an enjoyable spring break. It is encouraging that the weather has made a change to spring weather and hopefully you are able to enjoy the seasonable weather. We will be ready to welcome your children back on Monday, March 24th. Enjoy your break.
Private School Aid Service (PSAS)/URGENT/Deadline March 22, 2014
PSAS is pleased to provide a new online application link for the upcoming 2014-2015 school year! Your new PSAS online application represents the first of many new enhancements you will see from PSAS this year. The online application has been redesigned for ease of use and it is customized for our program; http://www.psas.org/DUBQ.aspx.

A reminder to complete the STO form to qualify for assistance on your tuition for the 2014-15 school year. The due date is March 22 and we want everyone to consider filing for this benefit to allow your children to attend St. Cecilia’s. If you have heard others saying they would attend but the tuition makes that impossible please share with them that there is a scholarship program that they can qualify for to reduce their tuition. A reminder that you need to file STO forms to be eligible for local assistance from the parish. Please contact the office to make an appointment if you need assistance with the form.
As we start back after break and we all have adjusted to the change of Daylight Savings Time I want to encourage everyone to have your children here for the start of the school day. I remind you that the teachers start class at 8:30 a.m. and you should try to have your child in the building by at least 8:25 a.m. I always try to share with staff to please respect others valuable time and be to our meetings on time. I hope you can provide the same courtesy for the students in the classroom and have your child to class on time. If your family has difficulties with the time because of work schedules or other family issues please let us know, otherwise we will plan to see your child on time for the start of class.
Super Summer Announcement
Super Summer 2014 June 9 - June 20, 2014 Ames Middle School
There will be two class sessions held each day:
8:30-10:00 am and 10:15-11:45 am.
Students may enroll in one or two sessions of classes.
The enrollment fee for each class is $80 per class.
